Default Horror Story

My Mate has a sweet pc 2x quad xeon 5355 watercooled, who knows how many hd, 9800gx2. 8gb of buffered ram watered cooled with koollance blocks.
all the hd's are watercooled as well. the thing is mad.

anyway go over last night and he gives me his story. comp was on, he was away for a good bit. comes back vista bsod. but he had an issue last week were it was doing this cos of bad drivers so he shuts it down and restarts then the fun happens. he starts smelling somthing comp freezes. looks in hugh pool of water in the comp.

turns it all off pulls the graphics card out 3 pins scorched, cards 2 weeks old. pci e slot has burn marks on it. gutted for him.

the problem one of the koolance memory bags developed a leak.!!!! i feel sorry for the guy. perfect excuses for a new skulltrail to get those xeons over clocked to what the should be.

the system has been running for over a year. its been a weird leak actual. cos it happened to his last card 8800gtx. and he tracked it down to a possible loose pipe put it all back together no leak. comes back comp fried . poor guy. so looks like m/b and 9800gx2 fried. i know the skulls and a lot but worth it if you already have all the hardware for it.trying to flog him my 3870x2 now so i can get my ummm 4870x2 big grin ha.

Man, hearing all of these leak stories lately have sure made me question going into water cooling. If something goes wrong with my setup that's going to be a serious blow to my wallet unlike most of you guys. I won't have a job while I'm in college so I'll be s.o.l. if something goes wrong.

Damn, that sucks! I guess with watercooling, double- and triple-checking everything really pays off. Something to monitor your flow rates might be useful too. Some of these controllers can even emergency shut-down your system. But still, with a dose of bad luck, it can still mean piles of cash down the drain...

I would never place water in a system I could not afford to lose.
