ok guys im really curious on how a shroud works I know that you deattach the fan so that u can use it as a housing fan for your radiator.. Not sure where or how it works tho. Another real random question is from me going from air to watercooling does that mean i can remove all my intake and exhaust fans as i have no use for them once my wc setup is installed??.. Can anyone post some pics up for me so i can have a quick geeze as I have no clue what so ever, Funny thing is i have a great wc setup on its way already and 3x panaflow fans also so i gotta learn everything before my setup arrives

You will still need intake and exhaust in the case, to keep the motherboard and ram cool, and to also feed cooler to your gpu and remove the heat from it aswell.

so keep the 2 120mm's fans in the front? Another question, whats better the HW Labs Black Ice GT Stealth 240 radiator or the Swiftech MCR-220 ? Actually.. say if i get the dtek-fuzion then i get the d5 vario pump.. Will 1 tube fit all? like the thought just came to my head if i get mcr220-QP will the slot where the tube goes onto be different size to the cpu block? or one size fits all?

![]() Hey - i have shrouds for my TRUE and my exhaust fans - the TRUE basically is a RAD - the shroud directs the flow of the fan onto the rad - also makes the fan slightly quieter [cannot hear the air "whoosh" as much]

One of the main positive effects of a fan shroud is that it reduces the effect of the "dead spot" behind the fan-hub. If the fan is right next to the radiator, the fins in the center hardly get any airflow because of that dead spot.
A gutted fan works quite well as a shroud, especially if you tape over the edge where the the fan meets the shroud (so no air can escape sideways). Ideally, use a gutted 38-mm fan. Cheers, Shane |

You still want to keep you case fans, and you need to replace the air flow to near-by mobo components that were cooled by the CPU HSF that you remove, ram, v-reg's etc...
One way in a case is to use to make fan brackets and mount them over the components..This si a old case of mine...I just use a bench now.. ![]() ![]() On my bench I have fan rails over the mobo... ![]() ![]() As has been said a shroud helps to close the dead spot in the middle of the airs flow, that means you have air flow over more of the rad.. Gutted 120x38mm fans are the easiest and right depth, I wouldn't buy new good ones to use, just look around the surplus stores and find some cheap....I use to make mine out of aluminum channel, they are kind of a pain because you have to cut semi-circles out in them so it wont restrict air flow... ![]()
