I was just wondering what the general practice is for testing your loops for leaks. I want to run mine for at least 24 hrs. before I install all my other components ( ie. mobo, HD, etc.).
But doesn't a PSU require a mobo to be attached before it will start powering individual devices? I'm trying to figure out a way not to install my pretty new mobo and test the system at the same time. I wouldn't want it to get leaked on after all. The 'puter is being built from scratch and I don't have a lot of spare parts from old 'puters to use. What do you guys do?

Ah ok. I didn't know the mobo could be off and the PSU would still work. Nice tip!
So maybe I'll just set the mobo to the side away from danger and do my test. Thanks!!!

Yeah, you just jump your PSU so only your pump is powered, that way even if a leak springs up you don't lose hardware. That being said, use just distilled water or a non-coductive coolant because additives like HydrX and regular old anti-freeze can leak and leave behind a nice slime of ethylene glycol, which ionizes when dries making it conductive enough to wreck things, and is a PITA to clean up.

Unplug everything except your fans and pump... start the PSU by getting a paperclip and touching the Green and any black wired pins.

Correct, either use wire from green to black or pickup a cap from jabtech, petra, sidewinder that has the 2 built in.

would you be able to just keep one side open and a power cable from your psu reaching outside the case powering your loop?
