I fished throught this forum for a bit and besides saying hi there are some points I wonder if I am accurate on + would appreciate an answer to my questions at the bottom.
*Points BLURB: I'm not much of a gamer. I have my computer in my closet along with my HT equiptment and there both connected to my wall mounted LCD in LR. The bluetooth KB and this setup is great since long hours on the computer was starting to harm my eyes. With this 37" screen I can distance myself enough so that no matter how long I'm in front of the screen the strain, headaches & soreness haven't returned. Whats it worth if you end up blind from long hours in front of a screen. PROBLEM: Akind of my system being in my closet and under excessive heat it got screwed up after leaving it on before I left for a 2 month trip with no a/c. I came back to find a faulty HD & cpu. HUNCH: I believe water cooling will be my best bet since there is higher then normal temperature in my closet and circulating hot air I don't believe will do much for hot system with hot ambient air circulating. HW: I plan on getting a quad core phenmon AMD and have 2 HD's. I'm not much of a gamer and will probably get any new low-mid end sli card out to go with my other new stuff. I plan on water cooling the CPU , GPU, and 2 HD's with 2 HD water blocks. Though theres a post here that says stay away from TT cooling stuff this review of the thermaltake aquabay m4 is one major reason why I want to get a LCS. Check out the review: http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/T...take/M4/6.html *******Tubing & sizeing my water cooling needs******* I noticed some cooling systems where reservoir main outgoing line was split 3 ways and others where there was an extra radiator between the CPU & GPU. I have the feeling that if you have a huge radiator and split from the main reservoir line source so that there is no chain tubbing you won't need an extra radiator between the CPU & GPU. The HD water blocks I noticed come mainly in 3/8" or 1/4" I imagine that means I'd be better off going with 3/8". And finally considering I intend to cool a CPU, GPU & 2 HD's thats a total of 4 waterblocks blocks. *************** *Questions* 1. What minimum size pump, radiator & reservoir would you consider make this plan final for my 4 blocks???? {I'm TOTALLY new to all this, I saw a spreadsheet on this forum that seem all too complicated to calculate everything, I'm pretty sure somebody has some similar setup allready running and can advise just as well} 2. The Lian li Tyr PC-X2000 seems like the case I'd get due to the air filter amongst other things. Does anyone know where I can buy this case since I couldn't find it online or if there is a similar case you can suggest that has an air filter? 3. Is there a huge internal radiator 3x120mm radiator that easily goes into the lian li or similar case without any modding? 4. Though many have said that down the road the TT built in LCS systems degrade, leak and are crap. This Kandalf http://www.thermaltakeusa.com/Produc...C=1273&ID=1413 akind of the 360mm radiator it seems like its allready all there, ready to go. Is it really that low quality. Leakage is pretty serious, but I have the feeling that its more akind of some other factor, can anyone personally attest to the all so horrible quality of the LCS of this unit? Thanks Last edited by mikeo1313 : 08-08-08 at 12:29 AM. |

Being that most of your questions are about watercooling, and since you have all the other components figured out, may I suggest you get either a
PNY 9600 GT, it is a mediocre GPU, and there is an outstanding deal going on. PM me and I will link you up, because the egg isn't working properly now. There are other cards that come with pre-equipped water-blocks, so I will look into some of them. Just so you know, they will cost you dearly, unless you are willing to go ahead, buy a card of your liking, and then purchase a block of your choice. I want to start watercooling myself, but I will leave it up to next year, because I might do a really extreme mod, that is to soak a sealed acrylic case in cooking oil. Lmao Good luck with your build and welcome to ocn

Here are two things case specific that I think you should consider:
__________________1. Your radiator is going to be in a hot closet, so it will be tough to keep your coolant temp down. 2. If you are going to be leaving your computer running months at a time without checking it, and your pump dies, you will be in a world of hurt.

I know there is a case with a mounted AC in it. Dunno how functional it is, but it might help you in your case. Here it is: http://www.frozencpu.com/products/12...g1c7s532#blank That is probably going to be my next case

Well any ThermalTake W/C Product is CRAP. DO NOT Purchase any of their products for your W/C setup. AT ALL. Also they use El Cheapo POS Rads, Blocks, and 1/4" tubing that just makes it even worse. Here is a good setup for you.

Now is that a deal or what. You have you full system here in a spacious case. I choose 2 1TB Hard Drives randomly because they were big and you wanted two. I also choose two OS's for the large HD's. Now I just quickly put this together to give you a system that would work good for you. Now I realize that you might now buy the 750 Watt PC Power and Cooling PSU and the two OS's. I just through in a random quality PSU. A good PSU is key when keeping a computer on for long periods of times. It has a great midrange GPU (9600 gt) and a mid range AMD Quad Core on a decent Motherboard. The rest you can choose but I recommend that W/C System. Have fun building and don't hesitate to ask questions! P.S. I used www.NCIX.com. A great site for W/C Stuff and Computer Stuff.

I just noticed I didn't add HD coolers. This shouldn't be a problem though with the ambiance of fans in the 900. If you really need them, There 99 for two HD's and use a 5 1/4" bay. I added it to my list of part post!

Thanks for the heads up. I actually looked at that case myself but I'd suggest looking further into the a/c unit to be sure that will actually work out for you first. Heres a review on the a/c unit.http://www.bigbruin.com/reviews/pcaircon400/index2.php I really hate the fact that the buying decision with this cooling stuff is purely online. Atleast here in Miami I went to all the computer stores and NONE have a decent selection in half decent cases not to mention any water cooling stuff besides the TT bigwater, at best, if anything & only at compusa. |

Your suggestion reminds me of an external pump & reservoir I saw on a cnet water cooling video. Which seems like an option if that would be a factor since I do have small hidden holes in the wall allready to pass my cables & wiring for netw printer, external dvd & etc in LR. Thanks, I will be taking a break from all this research since these last couple of days I've been non stop. Having to depend on the internet photos and INVENT/visualize ways the way things MIGHT come together really isn't an idea I'm likeing either, atall. That frozencpu place atleast is in Rochester NY and have to return to NYc by the end of this month anyway + have family in Rochester. Thanks again |

The security of buying the proper case and water config is really the only thing thats bothering me. Comparable feeling to the scare of buying a car from the internet without being sure you will like what you get or if it will be good enough. Theres a little strip of computer stores here in Miami on 72nd ave I'm going to scope before chalking this up as a personal visit to frozencpu not to mention I allready went to both tiger & 2 compusa's to find pure CRAP. |
