Default Strange OC problem and Very high Temps!

Hi there,

Ok I have a number of serious problems here and it's driving me crazy! First of all, I had a Maximus Formula with a C2D @ 3ghrz with a Geforce 8800 GTX on Watercooling. I was able to get my CPU @ 3.8 Ghrz and my gfx @ 670 mhrz without any overheating problems. The following was used in my watercooling setup

pump ( eheim Station 2 submerged 600 l/h ) -> Apogee GTX -> Ek Waterblocks 8800 GTX full cover block -> NB Fusion Block -> Blakc Ice GTX 360 Radiator (fitted with 3 Coolermaster Blue Led fans on it)

The case to house all that is a Stacker 830 EVO.

I decided to go for an SLi rig and for a quad core CPU so I got myself another 8800 GTX and a Q9450 C1 stepping all of them to be hosted in an Asus Striker II Extreme motherboard. I also wated to provide my system with additional cooling so I bought another pump of the same type 7 12cm Silenx Fans Pro and another Black Ice radiator this time a GTX 480.

I connected all of them in the following order

1st pump -> radiator (GTX 480) -> second pump -> radiator GTX 360 -> Apogee GTX -> EK 1st -> EK 2nd -> 1 pump

The 7 SilenX fans where placed on the radiators, the coolant used was PC Ice and the fittings where 1/2'

Oh and the room is not hot or anything normal temps and the rads are well ventilated...(they are under my desk though...)

When I first powered on I realised that my second gtx was defective so I went for an RMA and removed the 2nd ek waterblock so I could get my pc up and running.

This was the time that I got my first look at the temp, at stocks speeds everything the Core temps where like 60~65 C in each core and the CPU temp was around 45~48 C according to everest (using realtemp it reported all cores around 50C at stock speeds!). The first gfx was around 45 ~ 50 C in idle and well this was not a very good sight...if you take in account the time and money spent on these. Anyway any suggestions why is this thing so hot?

I'll provide photos of the set up if this helps (later to set up my phone for that )

My flow rate is fairly small, I get that...but still is this normal to have like 20~25 C more than I was planning on having with this W/C? I meant I got these components in order to have my CPU idling @ 25~30 C (cores) at stock speeds...but these temps are just insane!

Any help on this is welcomed, as I've run out of ideas....and have absolutely now clue about what's going on...

Welcome to OCN!
It is always a good idea to fill in your rig specs so we can see what your working with. It can be found in your user CP.

U didnt reseat the gpu or cpu block when u put in the new parts did u? Well u probably did, just double/tripple check ur work and try reseating em. see if that works.

Edit: oh yeah and welcome to ocn, to fill in ur specs click on private messages on the top right of ur screen and tehn on the left there will be options, one will say system or something and then fill it in. And btw are ur gtx's evga or did u cheat ur manufacturer out of an rma because u already changed the cooler?

No I am asus....I removed the cooler and then put it back...there is no way to tell the difference if the pcb is intact... and it was...and besides we have really awesome and very fast (2-3 days) rma in the store I am shopping...so it's uber

Thanks for your replies guys...I am really desperate to find a solution for this...yes I've rechecked and refitted everything...no corrosion on the blocks and stuff...and my previous system was running @ very low temperatures...it's like omg...the system I have problems now is the one I have labeled as "Performance Rig". Anyway, will wait for your responce!

Thanks again!

Make sure all the air is out of your loop, lay your rads over, if you can and shake them a little..Sounds like a bad mount or air still in your loop..

Thanks for your reply hehe...! But unfortunately...I've done that already..it's not my first loop nor my first box...these temps are really weird though and it's driving my nuts...

ah, and a note..when I was building my box I plugged the Stock cooler (or one that looks like one...) in order to check my cpu if it was working as intended prior to putting the W/C. Surprisingly... stock speeds using the stock cooler the CPU temp was almost the same I had with my watercooling setup...like 48~50 C idle (reading taken from bios...)

Huh...Those are fairly low head pumps, maybe run it res-pump-pump-rad-cpu-gpu-gpu-rad...When I run dual pumps I run one right after the other, then the rad then cpu....You might not be getting enough flow, if your sure of your mounts and its bleed, that doesn't leave much else but flow...

Did you clean out your new GPU blocks? They can have crud in them..It might not be just enough pump problem, you may have a blockage...

Thats really all I can think of without some pic's to look at...

the 9450s are warmer than most...but at stock speed thats fairly high...have you tried using the latest coretemp 99.3? i suggest them because a screen shot of it includes the tjmax..which is updated on the new version that came out a few days ago..

i tried reading the bios temps from my mobo.and theyre wrong...sad but true...

Thanks for the reply! Oh well, the only new block was the one of the faulty gfx card...and it was cleaned and tested for leaks prior to installing...I have the other block installed in my card for like 1 year or so...and in my previous setup worked perfectly (temps wise at least)! I'll provide some pics of my W/C set up in order to enlighten you a bit...and ultimately...help me...

pics of my W/C setup

pic showing the idle temps (with around 21C and with open windows... room temp...oh and it's night...) from Everest 4.50 Ultimate, Coretemp and Realtemp...all are extremly high... :P. Considering my W/C componments and the two rads I have...

Hope this helped...

Will wait for your responces!
