Default Is there a correct way of applying teflon tape ?

I have two types of fittings. One is bittspower compression fittings for 1/2 5/8 tubing(Could I mess up the seal of the compression fitting by putting tape on it?) and the other type of fitting I have is just regular barbed fittings.

So what do you guys reccomend?

i don't know how there is a wrong way but just wrap it around the barbs once or 1.5 times.. too much and it won't fit too well.

I think there is a correct way I can't remember if you go counter or clockwise. Ira-k should pop in sometime and give you the low down .

Well to screw a barb in you turn it clockwise..so put the tape of anti clockwise so the end part doesnt unravel when screwing the barb in.

you're going to wrap it clockwise if the end that you are wrapping is facing toward you and counter clockwise if its facing away from you. well, i'm quite sure its that direction as when you are you screwing it in, you don't want the tape to come off.

Actually i'm sure its just the opposite. You want to wrap with the threads. So when you are tightening it into the rad or res. it will continue to tighten on the fitting.

LoL sry been a long day your correct. The way you said was the same way i was thinking just didnt quite understand what you were saying HAHA!

So let me tell you what I understand so far.

Tape the compression fitting with the rubber washer end , wrap clockwise while facing the washer end 1-1.5x..

Is that right?

what do you mean by tape the compression fitting? what part of the compression fitting are you talking about? are talking about where the tubing is going to be or the one that goes into block/rad/pump? if you're talking about where the tubing is going to be, no need for it. but i don't think you're talking about that end so yea, 1-1.5x should be enough to give it a tight fit.

edit: you meant the o-ring = rubber washer? yea, when facing that side. clockwise is correct.

You should not have to use thread tape with an "O" ring fitting, thread tape is meant for tapered threads.
Another note on Teflon tape, be aware there is cheap crap tape and good quality stuff. Stay away from the thin dollar store stuff.

Ok that was my question. So I should not tape compression fittings with o rings...

Like this..

So I dont need to tape this right?

Btw I do only have the homedepot kind. I guess its cheap.
