I have read a few people on here and other sites that lap their cpu's. I have not done this before and was just wondering how much it helps with the heat transfer if you already have a good WC block?

I don't know about the temps with water. On air, you shave around 2 to 5 degrees off of your temps.

General consensus is not to lap waterblocks. Lapping is usually done for heatsinks with a reasonable to bad base, like the TRUE.

every little bit helps, but i wouldnt suggest lapping unless you can really see the unevenness on the cpu block or processor

I wouldn't go through the trouble personally, as you're going to meet a voltage limit before meeting a temp limit. I have good temps that don't cause instability, but I really don't care to push my CPU past 1.5V 24/7 to get higher than 3.8 GHz.

Thanks all for your quick and concise responses. I was not really considering doing this unless it was some massive improvement. I was just curious as I had never heard of doing that before. I do think I am addicted to tinkering with my machine now though! lol Big surprise right. I just placed an order for the Q9650 at the egg. I was having so much fun with the E8600 thought I should see what I could really get this mobo to do...and the fun begins...Thanks again all!
