I Think people are getting confused here..to use thermal paste on the gpu CORE is perfectly fine..nothing wrong with it at all ive done it on all my gpus as many people have..using thermal paste on the memory chips on a gpu is what you should not do..because these usually come with thermal pads fitted and so when thermal paste is fitted it just isnt thick enough to provide contact.

Oh cummon man stop making the guy feel bad..like youve never dont nothing like that..he didnt brake it on purpose and the company is a multi million $$ company..like this one guys rma is going to bankrupt the company..lighten up you guys..you know youve done stuff like this in the past, or if you havent you are bound to do it in the future.

I disagree!

I can't think of a single full cover water block that comes with Thermal Pads for the memory chips.
Vregs yes, memory chips no.

Waterblock manufacters use fancy scanners / cameras to work out the depths of the card PCB which is then transfered into the water block design.

Since most block instructions actually tell you to use TIM on the memory i'm guessing that the bits on the block that touch the memory chips on the card, extrude more than the bits on the stock heatsink.
Thus ruleing out the need for thermal pads on the memory.

I've read that back and it's confusing me but I hope you'll get the idea.

Ooohh..so on the full cover WB even on the memory chips you use TIM??..hmm i was just going by my stock cooler on my card..because it uses thermalpads for memory i though so do WBs.

Air won't get in between if you just put a dot of paste on. It's actually MORE likely to trap air if you spread it out first.

Not compeletely true marcus. The Danger Den FC-4870-X2 waterblock uses thermal pads for the memory and vregs. In fact, they don't even cut it for you. They tell you on in their "instructions", which they conviently forgot to include, that you have to cut their thermal pad to fit on the memory and other stuff.

lol there's always one aint there!

I'll dig out a couple of full cover blocks and have a gander inside, i'm sure none of them have thermal pads for the RAM.

Most high quality or wannabe high quality blocks dont, because thermal pads are a horrible medium of transfer. That is why they use it on vregs, mosfets, and memory, because those components usually don't heat up too much.
