I'm still not seeing what you were getting at though

Are you tryin to say you think it's okay to use on RAM/GPU/Chipsets or are you saying that it IS conductive therefore you shouldn't?

updated my last post. It's fine to use on anything and everything. The silver particles are suspended in a non-conductive medium making their conductivity level moot.

Okay fair point, but if that's the case why would Arctic Silver say that they don't advise you use it in applications where there is a possibilty of the paste being spead onto multiple PCB tracks thus potentially causing a short?

Important Reminder
Even though Arctic Silver 5 thermal compound is specifically engineered for high electrical resistance, you should keep the compound away from processor, memory, and motherboard traces and pins. There is a possibility that dust or metal particles and/or shavings carried by airflow inside the computer case could contaminate the compound and increase its electrical conductivity.

conductive =/= capacitive

"conductive =/= capacitive" that statement is true for DC circuits, but once you go into the realm of AC and frequencies, capacitance can still conduct. Since were dealing with electronic pulses of square waves i would think that any sort of capacitive bridge between pins has the potential cause problems some where. regardless, you should always be diligent with this AS5 if you are applying anywhere near traces or solder joints.

Vregs yes, memory chips no.

Waterblock manufacters use fancy scanners / cameras to work out the depths of the card PCB which is then transfered into the water block design.

Since most block instructions actually tell you to use TIM on the memory i'm guessing that the bits on the block that touch the memory chips on the card, extrude more than the bits on the stock heatsink.
Thus ruleing out the need for thermal pads on the memory.

I've read that back and it's confusing me but I hope you'll get the idea.
lol, even my $30 D-Tek Unisink came with pre-cut thermal pads. That's just a sign of a company being cheap if they don't include thermal pads for a $100-150+ block imo...

lol how is it being cheap if they make the block in such a way that thermal pads aren't needed??

If the block manufacturer has measured the card correctly and the block touches the memory chips when it's fitted correctly they have no need to supply thermal pads other than for VREGs.

I'll speak to a man in the know and report back!
