I'm going to have my new case and watercooling system before my motherboard and complete new system. Due to this, I want to test hte water cooling system before to save the 1-2 day downtime, and to test the system VERY stress free.
__________________Is it alright to test a water cooling system for leaks without attaching it to a cpu/motherboard? Can you leave the CPU block in the middle of the air or bottom of the case (kind of wherever it lets its self fall). If not, could I tie the block to roughly the position of where it would be on the motherboard tray? (I can access the backside of the motherboard tray, this would not be an issue.)

yea its perfectly fine. its actually one of the things you should do. test your gear w/o your hardware inside the case. they can just sit on whatever you place it on. you could also tie it up if you wanted to, just make sure that the tubing is long enough to fit properly when you put in your hardware.
after you are done leak testing w/o hardware, you're gonna wait to retest for leaks with hardware. as when you move it your hardware in, you might loosen the tubing on th barbs. so leak test, leak test, leak teste. ![]()

Yeah that would be a good idea to test it again. I should be able to donate like 2 days to leak testing originally nooooo problem. Should be able to give it another half day or day when I get the motherboard no problem. thanks for the input, its been harder to get that answer out of people it seems.

Remember, not properly leak testing your loop for at least 24 hours is like putting an open cup of OJ in your rig and hoping it does not spill.

Just my two cents. I don't see a lot of value ln leak testing outside of the case. If it does test fine, then you have to dismantle to install in the case - thereby invalidating your leak test IMHO. You just have to leak test again once it's in the case. I leak test with my components in the final positions/locations. I just make sure that the only think receiving power is the pump.
__________________If you do have a leak, not big deal. You wipe up the spill and ensure the wet component is fully dry before applying any power. A hair dryer ort large fan and several hours to dry is all it takes. Also, leak testing in the final position allows me to combine the leak test with the bleeding and save myself some time.

I like to do it out of my case for a day or two, I'm just testing the components then, res can leak, pump seals and block o-rings can fail..Then I do it in the rig with the PSU jumped for another 24 hours or so, I'm testing the tube and barb unions mostly then..Put some printer paper under your barbs you can see any little leak that way..I like to use a little UV dye in my loop to, that way I can use a little 4" UV cold cathode to look for leaks with, they really shine under the light, I go over my rig with one every few weeks...I don't trust this stuff as far as I can throw it..
...I've never had a leak, but I know I can just as easily as anyone..I'll leave you my cleaning and set-up PDF...

I'll have the tubing through my case, but not attached to a motherboard. There will only be one install. What are some opinions in terms of upkeep. How often to replace tubing, water, any coolants, anti-fungal and other junk?
