------------------------------------Myths about bongs---------------------------

Myth #1. Condensation
You will not get condensation if your bong is inside your house. You will get under ambient water temps but the due point in your house is most likely lower then you can go with a bong, although if for some reason you do get condensation you should not complain.
You can try using this to decide if your gonna have condensation.
New link to dew point calculator
http://www.decatur.de/javascript/dew/index.html

Myth #2. Humidity
The humidity in your room will not rise to 100% from your bong. You might get a 1 or 2% rise but it should not be noticeable.

Myth #3. refilling is a P.I.T.A.
The larger you make your res the longer you can wait to refill your bong. A good bong with a strong 120mm fan on it can evaporate about a gallon of water a day. Also the faster your fan is spinning the more often you will have to fill your bong.

To keep things from growing in your water I suggest .999 silver coils (made by IandH) and one of these http://www.homedepot.com/webapp/wcs/...3+90401+500967

Keep the "Bong" joking out of this thread!

Well put nub I think my bong is sexy as hell and the temps shows that its true. You just simply can not get these kind of temps with a normal water cooling loop. Sub ambient is not reachable.

I get better temps with a $30 bong cooler then people that pay $180 on a rad. How can anyone make fun of that?

I mean I guess I could slap some cool lights on the bong but I don't really see the point in having a nice looking loop that you payed 6 times more for that will never cool as well as my ugly old bong.

Do you think that it is possible to build a bong cooler on a smaller scale?

can someone explain to me the atomizer, like is that what really cools the water, for example; if you just had a pump leading the water back without the shower effect but had the fan there would it still cool the water? if you don't get what i mean imagine the reserator 1 with the lid taken of and fitted a fan at the top?

As the water moves through the air in the tube, the movement of air over the water cools the water. Simple idea...its why water cooling works.

Bong coolers expand on this my maximizing the surface area of the water, as it moves through the air. Enter some atomizer, in this case a shower head. The droplets have greater surface area than scattered water.

Yes, the water will collect itself into droplets if you let it fall long enough.....but this needs to fit in a house...so you force droplets to form from the beginning.

My idea here is to expand on this further and use a spritzer like window cleaner nozzle style atomizer on a much smaller scale than duck has...like 1 or 2 feet tall or so....hm.

Still need to work this one out though.

Sub ambient does not mean automatic condensation. That is the dew point, which will vary depending on the relative humidity of the air and the temperature. As far as I know, it is not possible for a bong to ever reach the dew point.

A smaller bong is certainly possible. One of the links DirtyDuck posted earlier in this thread was to a guide that showed an evaporative cooler design that used synthetic scouring pads sandwiched in between loops of a home made coil (with holes in it) instead of a shower head. The writer of that post said his temps were the same as a tower style evaporative cooler. I'd go copy and paste here but I'm feeling lazy this morning.

side note. system has no leaks and over 24 hours. 24 more to go til i feel safe

edit: here is an easy to use dew point calculator:

edit: here is another how to guide. including pics / info on the short tower with the scouring pads/coil instead of shower head

stop being paranoid nub just put it in and fire it up already lol

as for condensation...there is very little chance of reaching due point inside your house....if you put your tower outside you could do it no problem. If you are worried just go to the extreme cooling threads and read through the posts on insulating your MB. It is cheap and pretty easy to do if you ever want to go TEC. A bong chiller would be great for a TEC/pelter set up.

Ok, so I put it all together and went to fire it up - nothing. I have a dfi lanparty dark mb. on the led on the board it read C1. I looked it up in the manual and it said memory detection error.
I tried using known good memory in it but got the same result. :swearing: 2 more attempts different memory, same result! The bottom line is I suspect I've got a bad mb. Here is the kicker. Per documentation that came with the board, DFI wont take it back without the socket protector. I can not find it. Tearing my place apart and can not find it anywhere. grrrrrrrrrrrr.....
So unless somebody happens to have a dfi socket protector for socket 775 lying around, I am out 170 bucks :swearing:

Other than that everything looked good. No leaks at all.
