Hey guys,
__________________Only two posts but its late and I just wanted to shoot this off tonight before a big day of posting. (Im excited about this forum!) Anyhow, a friend of mine is offering me an (fully working, I assure you) Acetyl Maze4 GPU block and a DangerDen Chipset block for 50 bucks. I really cant pass this up and because my X800XT is at 60C under load right now, I kinda wanna cool it down. I was wondering if I was creating an 'overkill' system or if this should work out well. I am looking to keep my system at like, say....40C *gasp*. Essentially I was planning to have everything inside my big-ole case. I currently have a 120mm and 80mm fan for intake so I think my ambient is pretty decent. Still, with a 560 Prescott and X800XT (perhaps OC'd) and a chipset block (not OC the processor) do you think I can achieve my goal with this stuff? --Two blocks mentioned above --TDX waterblock --MCP655 pump (is this overkill for my 'high flow' system) --DD Dual 120mm Pro Rad. (not the extreme, dun wanna spend it) --Two quiet 120mm fans --Tygon 1/2" ID system... --Misc. T-line Now, I just want the chipset block for bling, no other reason really. I am not going to OC my processor but my radiator is going to be in my case with two fans pushing the air out. Is the pump too powerful? Other than that, what do you think?

I think there is no such thing like overkill when it comes to overclocking.

Well,
__________________There may not be much of an overkill to overclocking (besides instability), but if I go overboard on the water cooling, im gonna pay it out the nose. Still, I want to do this right so I only have to do it once. Essentially, I just need to get some semi-quiet fans. I already have some 120mm Vantec Stealths but some people think they are kinda a ripoff. I dont mind their level of noise, though. Might get two of them, or perhaps invest in some nexus fans (though I dont like that they are orange) or those Pabst (never even really seen them).

Like I was told by a fellow in here you could just find the highest CFM fan even if it is the loudest one and get a fan controller to lower it down to a decent noise level.

Well, I think that is somewhat true. I mean, you can get an okay fan and slow it down a bit but all a controller does is put resistance on the line, thus you can only turn down a Vantec tornado so much
__________________ Instead, I would prefer to get a quiet fan that I can have on at full blast all the time, even if it doesnt move a TON of air. Two 53cfm fans (Vatec Stealth at full blast) would definitely cool down my radiator. Still, do you think (if my ambients are like 27C or so) that I could keep the system and GPU under 40C?

First, i wouldnt cool the chipset, its a waste of time, money and space. Second, dont get the BIP2. A heatercore would offer better performance for about the same price. The tdx is a good block, but the swiftech mcp 6000 or 6002 has better performance for a cheaper price. The pump is fine. The acetal block is a great block. I have it on my x850xtpe and it dropped idle/load temps from 45/75 to 32/40. This is without the system completely purged of air and without AS5, just with generic stuff b/c i lost my tube. Remember to use ramsinks to cool the gddr3. It helps immensely when overclocking even though its not completely necessary with the gddr3 memory.

As I said before, I am fitting this all into my case. If you look at my specs, you actually see that I called my box the 'granddaddy OEM', thats because its an Dell XPS. This assures that I will never be able to touch the FSB or Memory settings. Essentially this is all for cooling the CPU and the look of such a mod. Because this all has to cram into my case, I can barely fit the dual 120mm (width is the issue), and the only radiators I have heard about are a good 6" across, whereas anything past 5.5" is really iffy.
__________________I will look into the mcp, as its only like 42 bucks compared to the TDX's 53 dollars. The ramsinks kinda worry me only because once you use something like arctic silver's bonding goop, you can pretty much never take the things off. The only reason I say this is because I still have a 3-year replacement/accidental warranty and I can repalce my card from almost any (key word "accidental", so mods probably dont count) mishap. I know that the chipset block is a waste of time, but again, looks count for a lot in my book and getting the thing for 20 bucks seems like a steal (even if its just for eyecandy). Here is an actual pic of my exact case with the same system (this is my friend's case before he decided to sell it): http://www.umsl.edu/~natc7d/bluestable.JPG However, I will be putting my dual 120mm rad on the back left (where he only has one fan) instead of the ceiling.

I know prescotts are hot so on water I'm just guessing your load temps will be somewhere in the neighborhood of 15~18 C above ambient temps. For my SD I'm around 13 C above ambient on a hot SD with a silver G5 CPU block. I got around 12 C or so above ambient on the slightly cooler Winchester with a copper TDX. So I figure your Pressy will handicap you another couple degrees.
