Another upgrade made. Just replaced some hose - the first case-off pic of my setup is available at
http://sharedserv.no-ip.org/oldphotos/watercomp.jpg . Water comes in through the lowest slot, and out through a fan grill I have savaged with a pair of cutters.
A few things dont make sense though. For one, since the upgrade my flow rate is lower (it didn't go quite as planned... air-lock, a hazard of negative-pressure systems. Im hoping it will work itsself out.). But my temps have gone down. That makes no sense. Im guessing its because I changed coolent.
Which brings up the second strange thing. Green gunk, in considerable quantity, covering the bottom of my plastic reservoir. At first I thought this was due to corrosion of the blocks. I cant inspect the aluminium parts, but the copper and brass parts look fine. Closer inspection of the pump though showed that most of the gunk was flaking off of the epoxy I had used to seal a leak. It would appear that epoxy and water-and-antifreeze do not do well together. If any blocks crumble to dust, I will know it was the aluminium.
Im going to let it run for a few hours to get an idea how this coolent performs, then add a little water-wetter and look for a change. If its still good, I will add the ethan-1,2-diol (I refuse to use the 'glycol' name) and see if that has any effect.
I have no real questions for this thread. I just wanted to hear any oppinions on the surprising (52 to 48 c) effect of even a small quantity of ethan-1,2-diol on temperature and the cause of the corrosion.
