Question Corrossion in loop with anti corrossion liquid???

Hi troopers! Ive had some real problems with my WC setup. Im using a zalman reserator XT, with zalmans ZM-WB5 to cool the cpu ( http://www.zalman.com/ENG/product/Pr...ad.asp?idx=181 ) and the onboard fusion block that came mounted on my ASUS striker II extreme MB. After only 2 months the water turned green and messy

compared to:

And it looks like soil/mud/rust inside the fusion block:

Have any of u smart guys any bright idea what it can be?? My guess is that its two or more diff metals in the loop that dont "get along"

This is what it should look like:

Woah

Wow. It definatly looks like the fusion block is causing all that corrosion in your loop, is it pure copper??

well im not 100 % sure but i think it is that. The cpu block is prolly made from, alu and is coated in some way. If the fusion block is made from copper and the other thing isnt....is this what it should looke like...end up?

That's what happens when you mix aluminum and copper parts!

Did you check the aluminum blocks for any buildup? And can you take pics of the insides of the NB and CPU blocks?

If the metal inside the blocks isn't actually rotting, and there is that same buildup in all the blocks and pump, that could very well be some sort of algae that is growing.

I cant see anything inside the alu parts...but much inside the copper fusionblock. Im gonna try and take fusionblock apart.....but it looks solid. Also gonna open the reserator to see how it looks inside......mayby a whole jungle

Perhaps you should get rid of the zalman reserator and water block , and go with an all copper radiator and water block. Even if that turns out to be critters growing in your loop, eventually you will have galvanic corrosion with the mixed metals.

Here's the problem. "Base Material Pure Copper (Base), Pure Aluminum (Cover)"

Even though it's anodized it doesn't stop the transfer nor do anti corrosion additives. But if you aren't using PT-Nuke I'de get some as it could very well be a mix of the metals & micro bacteria(algae) together.

Koolance has been doing there best to better their products so if it is indeed the cpu block shoot them an Email & let them know your problem. I'm betting they'll help you out in some way to rectify things or at the very least they'll know & make possible changes in the future.

Well if you don't find much of that gunk anywhere else then its definitely corrosion.

If its corrosion then your only choice is to either replace your motherboard's entire cooling system with aluminum parts or replace the other parts with copper ones (better choice). So hope its not that!
