I'm confused. I have a DDC-3.2tpmp. I keep hearing that I should have an orange or blue impeller, but mine is black. Does the different impeller have any effect on the performance of the pump?

The black impeller are the 10W DDC. The old 18W were orange, best WC'ing pump ever made I think, the old 10W were black. Both of the newer 10W and 18W are blue.
EDIT: If you bought it used and someone stuck a black impeller in it the performance should be about the same. The new blues wont fit very well in the older pumps, there just a little off in dimensions.

.. I liked running 2 in series, thats like 36' of head and I was getting between 2.5-3gpm actual loop flow in a CPU only loop.I've had 5 or 6 of the orange and I only had 2 of them die on me, probably my own fault since I over-volted them to. I never have had any of the black impeller pumps die. I'd still be using them instead of my Iwaki if I could buy them new, I hate buying used pumps. This pump had a burn spot on it, the second one that died didn't have anything obviously wrong with it. ![]() ![]()

Interesting. I bought mine brand new from microcenter about 6 months ago. So this is an older pump... Would I see a substantial change in overall loop performance getting a newer 18w pump with the newer impeller.

Hey you could always look around and find a 10W black impeller and use that to do 2 in series. I only dropped a C or two running 2 orange in a CPU only loop but the redundancy is great thing to have.

My loop is down for the moment, but it will be: pump -> XSPC RX240 -> EK FC gtx260 -> RX360 -> heatkiller LT
I may just grab another pump. Redundancy is never a bad thing ![]() edit: Is there anyway to tell what version you're getting without opening up the pump and checking? I was thinking I'll go back to microcenter, but I think they might frown on me grabbing a screwdriver and opening up pumps from the shelf!

Thats the only way I've ever checked them is by impeller color. You might look around and see if the model #'s can give you a indication. Look at the pump spec's as far as I know the 10W DDC spec's are the same as for the newer ones, it was just the 18W DDC that they had to de-tune. So you very well may be able to use a 10W black with a newer blue.

Does the speed of the pump (rpm) reported give an indication of what's what?

I just pulled my pump apart. Looks nothing like the one pictured in the sticky about changing to an 18w version. The wires are soldered in the opposite order with the blank solder point on the opposite side as well. Hmmm....
