Yeah, the red/black meter on the left is the anemometer measuring CFM through the radiator.
The red one on the right is measuring voltage.
The blue one in the back is measuring sound level.

But I would caution about the CFM and Noise level numbers. The more testing I do with fans, the less and less I trust those two. The anemometer is junk, and CFM doesn't necessarily equate to thermal performance either. The fans with larger deadspots created by the fan hub or other will perform worse per CFM than those that have larger active areas.

Noise level is also not at all equal to sound quality, you have to listen to the videos and "Think" in terms of what would be annoying to you. This is probably different for everyone.

In the end, the video is about the only good piece of information to let you listen to the sound quality/type. Then look at the CFM number for a ballpark, and finally look at the fan hub size itself and take a guess at how that effects overall performance.

The db stuff looks just about right to me. We need to consider the 40db as actual room db and subtract the additional db from the fans to get actual fan db right?

Yeah, there is some formula for doing that, but I'm not sure exactly. I also think my ambient was lower than 40db, but the meter doesn't read any lower.

Is there anywhere to actually purchase the Triebwerk's yet? I heard they were around $30 a pop BTW.

I'm not sure, I got mine as a sample direct from TFC.

Minor Update...

I ordered some of these Koolance High Speed 140mm fans from PerformancePCS and gave them a whirl. They were the highest speed 140mm fans I could find, so they seemed like good testing candidates to get an overall 140mm fan picture (At least for what little we can choose from on 140mm fans today). I understand San Ace makes some 140mm x 56mm fans up to 4200RPM, but I havn't seen anything like that for sale in the shops. These Koolance fans will work for now, at least I can get up to 1700RPM with them and clear down to about 600RPM on the low end of the sensor limit.

I updated the original post with new charts including these 140mm runs if you want the details, but here is the major update:

Here are the additional fans tested:

Comparing them to all the fans tested on the Monsta:

And the comparison to the other triple radiators:

Bottom line, 140mm fans produce the most cooling per RPM by a fair margin as you might expect because of their larger size. On average you can run the fans at about 150RPM lower than a 120mm fan to get a similar performance.. Better yet, run 6 140's in push/pull would probably be the ideal setup.

OK, enough watercooling tinkering for a while. I blew up my banshee, so I'm back in the garage rebuilding an engine...yet again. Nothing like pushing the limits of horsepower..

I was just scoping the tribewerk fans out over at FrozenCPU and was going to post a thread asking about them when I thought hay the ToS says to search before you post, so I did and look what I found a review by none other than martin.

Thank you martin for your relentless persuit of all things water cooling.

thanks for the review martin, very good job, been reading all your reviews at xs.

i'm looking into getting this rad in the next few weeks. i was wondering if you might have done testing with a push & pull configuration with a 120mm fan push and 140mm fan pull since the gasket provided with the box are for these two types of fan.

or would it be better to push/pull all with 140mm fans, i have read shane's review with dual fans but i was quite confused with his c/w charts, i prefer the watts dissipitated chart as it is easy to understand and estimate the cooling performance. thanks

I havn't done any push/pull testing, and have no plans too, but I would expect good gains with push pull, perhaps another 20-30% over these single fan/pull numbers. You can use this old chart for a rough estimation of push/pull and shroud benefits:

Push/pull in this old RS120 test was about 25% better than pull alone. It was using stronger 38mm fans which makes it a bit different, but using it as a rough rough guide would probably be ok to give you an idea anyhow.

Anyone know if these are still available anywhere?
They were limited editions, all the shops I see that had them now show "out of stock" or "discontinued".
Any clue were one could still grab one of these MONSTArs ?

edit: nevermind I think I found some
I called scan.co.uk and they appear to have more than 10 pieces left
Grab them while they last !
