Just got all the water cooling parts in... Still waiting on the case from mountainmods... apparently they were un-aware that I had made the purchase because I didn't click "Return to Store" on the paypal website after I made the purchase. Also they are out of brush finished parts and neglected to let me know -_-'. They say it may be 2 weeks before I get my case...
__________________Anyways I am extremely happy with performance PC's recovery of my order. The shipping address and billing address did not match and after they failed to contact me and let me know (and after I waited 3 days unaware of the fact) I contacted them to check the status, they told me what the problem was, fixed it quickly by changing the shipping address to that of the billing address and they even overnighted it for free. Will post some pics of the new hardware once I get hold of a camera ![]() Also, I can see the machining marks on the HK 3.0 CPU block I bought. I think it is in need of a decent lapping. What do you guys think?

I was planning on doing 2000 then 2500, it's what I have on hand, that and 1 more sheet of 1500 left. I usually do 400-2500 polishing with 2000 then 2500. It's not bad at all so I think I am just gonna do the 2000/2500 polishing. What do you mean by bow though? These things aren't flat?

This must use the same premise as the GTZ, It has a plate with raised notches that put a ever so slight bow in the middle axis of the copper base.

Could someone elaborate on the bow please. I am in the process of lapping it right now and I can clearly see it is taking down the middle first, I can only assume this is the bow you are speaking of. Do I want to keep that bow or is it ok the lap it down to a flat surface. I can imagine in my head how the bow would help as it is protruding at the middle may help it become flat once pressure is applied to it. I have stopped lapping it so I don't F it up anymore than I have with the slight lapping I have done to it now.

Take the copper base out of the block, then it will lay flat, if you don't it will take it down thinner in the middle. There bowed like that so the middle of the block will make a little better contact over the core on a s/775 rig.
Usually the machined base that it has from the factory is a lot flatter then we can get them anyway.

Unless I am doing something wrong it's pretty off... It is steady taking layers from the middle and not touching the outside, even though I have it removed from the rest of the block. I can clearly see the machining they did to the block though. It's like someone placed it on a heavy grit sanding wheel and held it in place on the wheel for a while.

If it was that badly scarred up I wish you had just returned it. Hopefully you can finish it on out without getting the center to thin. When the center gets to thin the heat from the chip can warp it up and away from the chip, if you get lucky and it warps towards the chip it will usually be fine.

I got it polished... I didn't take too much off I don't think... the screws are still well up in there cut out holes. I ended up using 400 grit till the machining marks were gone then 1500-2500 to polish it. I think I went thru 4 12x4 inch sheets of 400 before the marks were gone. It is a nice mirror finish now... will update with pics soon.
