Default New, Unsure and need advice! Please Read!

OK heres the deal

Im on air cooling with my pentium 4 3.4GHZ 800FSB 550 and at idle its at 56c! Now a review shows some water cooling can cool a 2.8ghz overclocked to 3.4Ghz (mine at stock) down to around 32c idle and 49c load!

I want to overclock to 4ghz+ and in my other topics (listed below) others have said i can easy - only cooling is a problem and the fact that my mobo overclocking or advanced features in bios are hidden aka locked see topic please!

I want to know a good water cooler good for my cpu now and at the 4ghz i hope to achieve at the end. I have £70 thats around $100 - $120 (US$) to spend on a great cooler (thats water).

Now i need reassurence - im scared of water near electricity.. As we all learnt (or should of) in school water and electricity do NOT mix! I want to hear what some of you have as water coolers on what rig and for how long without any problems. And any problems if you have any!

Next is installtion - is it simple? I have the Gigabyte 3D Aurura case with 2 holes at the back ready for water cooling if needed - how many times a month (if longer - every 6 months) do you have to refill your water cooled system? How much cost a bottle + how long it last?

My other topics are: 4GHZ Overclocking | Strange Gigabyte locked Mobo

If anyone can also help me with those i would be very happy. Would i see any difference between 3.4 and 4ghz? As in un-raring / un-zipping files and running high games like f.e.a.r. and serious sam 2?

Thanks

If your bios are grayed out you could try to flash them, If that don't work then its time for a new mother board.

I don't know what school you go to. Water is not conductive. Salts dissolved in water are conductive. Distilled water is AFAIK pure water, so it should not be conductive...for the skeptical

$120 won't get you water. Just get an xp-120 with a nice fan. And some nice case fans. You'll be better off with top of the line air cooling than a little kit.

Btw, temps on other rigs mean nothing - there are too many factors that influence temps. Only when it's just your rig, or very methodical and scientific are other people's temps meaningful.

As a matter of fact you are very wrong! I have seen a nice thermal take one for around £66. That is the one im talking about with the temps. As for water why not take a bath with your computer in it?

Yeah, I've been looking at the same one (among others), my only reservation is that it only pumps @ 90L/hr, which is only 25ml a second, which doesn't seem like very much to me after all, a can of coke is 330ml, so the system pumps the equivalent of 4.5 cans round the system each minute. Is that really enough to move the heat from a CPU overclocked to 4GHz? I just don't know...

You can't watercool w/ that budget, unless you can manufacture ur own blocks like I am Just get a nice heatsink and high cfm fan to move that heat around from that blast furnace of a processor. Even if you build the block yourself, you still need $$$ for a decent pump, some tubing, lots of stuff. Until you get some more money, or you are a genious in a machine shop, just get some better air cooling.

97% of the Earth's water is not fresh and out of the 3% that is, it there is probably an even smaller percentage that is actually only pure H2O, so in that sense the vast majority of water on Earth is electrically conductive, but yeah, pure H2O isn't inherently electrically conductive and that is the stuff you'll want in your watercooling system. There are still risks of shorts, even with pure H2O as it can pick-up impurities from any surface in comes into contact with that could act as a conductor suspended in the water, but it is actually much safer than most people would imagine.
