I have been grappling with the idea of which pump to buy for my new rig and can't seem to make a choice. Plans are to run 1/2 ID with either a Storm or Swiftech block (CPU only) and I am not sure what the best option is. AC pumps are of course going to be a little to a lot stronger but also have the power consumption to add to the electric bill. The 12V Swiftech is smaller and easily wires up with no extra work but it of course becomes an additional load on the PSU, though 4 good 120's will suck that kind of power too. That all said, please give me what you feel are the reasons to go one way or the other as well as what pump you feel is the best. I am lookingto try to keep it quiet as well as contained within the case I am building. The area I have to mount it in has the footprint of the 5-1/4 bays by about 6" high. Set me straight guys!

I have been looking at this one. http://www.frozencpu.com/ex-pmp-34.html It seems to get good reviews and i think it would be good enough for 1/2".

I bought a Via Aqua 1300, I know it is a cheap pump (17.99 @ American Aquarium Products) But it does have a 370gph flow rate. At first I hated it because of the noise but remembered that I had seen a thread on an impeller mod to quiet it down, I did that and it barely hums now and has been running flawlessly for over a month now and at 28 watts I don't consider it too bad. If nothing else I would recommend getting one as a back up spare.

It is pricey, but http://www.frozencpu.com/ex-pmp-27.html (Swiftech 655) is a great pump. Good flow, low power consumption, quiet. Nice balanced pump.
http://www.systemcooling.com/swiftech_mcp655-01.html. That is a good review, showing how this pump compares to other 12v pumps and some AC ones. I think you will like what you find.

I like my Hydor L40. It's AC, and it pushes 700+ GPH. It consumes 55 Watts of power, and draws ~.5 Amps. Did those calculations after figuring out watt consumption. Thought I'd throw those out there. It's available at marinedepot.com for 52 bucks before shipping. Here's the link to it:

Burn,
According to that website, the Hydor L40 uses 55w, not 40.

![]() For two blocks, the L40 is pointless aswell, just get an L35. There's no need for anymore than 400 or so GPH. The only time you'd need a L40 or so is when using 4+ blocks. Some people cool their cpu, sli gpus and chipset. Thats when the flow gets eaten up and you need the power of the L40. That swiftech pump that you got is a good one, and I think you'll like that one. Good choice! ![]() And yes, the L40 uses 55W of power.
