You gain better temps with water rather than with passive or active cooling in most cases. Water transfers heat better than air, and this alone can reduce case temps inside. Because the heat isn't actually escaping through the air but rather the water and into the rad which is normally mounted on the outside of the chassis (Computer Case). This also helps other components because they arn't getting the heat back from the CPU or other components that produce alot of heat, i.e the GFX Card is much hotter because the CPU is using Active Cooling and the heat alone may be leaveing the case, but it can also be hitting the GFX card on its way out. I hope this makes since. In some instinces if you get the right fans for your Radiator and a Fan Controller you can actually make your system quiet more so than what passive cooling offers. Then when you need better cooling say while gaming you can raise the Fan Speed using the Controller and game away cooling better yet. Never the less CPU's and Most if not all GFX Cards will always use Active Cooling so there will always be noise, but you can reduce this just by Watercooling alone.

Edit: Damn silverwolf beat me to it.

Honestly watercooling is more of a hobby nowadays. With air coolers like the Megahalem, there are minimal gains to be had with water for a much higher cost. Don't get me wrong, a high-end watercooling setup will still be at least a few degrees cooler than the best air cooler, but it will cost 4-5 times as much.

Hmmm... I have watercooling at the moment and it is expensive but it looks cool. If you get a Megahalems or a TRUE then there is not much "need" for watercooling, but then again I didn't need to waste my money on uv lights and other crap too. It is just cool and fun, plus temps don't hurt.

Edit: Like slothfish said about Megahalems, I am only getting about the same temps with water(not the most highend water) as I did with my Megahgalems, so it is more of just a hobby. Unless you wan't to cool your gpu's, 'cuz mine heat the heck out of my whole case!

Its the ability to run a high end pc quietly as well. Water cooling allows a much larger heat sink located away from the actual heat source.

Lots of radiator area is key if your going quiet, as well as low db fans.

I believe I said something to that effect.

Good watercooling is better than aircooling

I would also imagine that there would be dust in less places too.

Yeah, but most people on this forum are going to use high dB fans on their radiators regardless

Very true, In fact, I'm running 3K Ultra Kaze on my rad (not very fond of them..) Some days I can game and have the fans just barely spinning. Definitely worth it over a screaming stock GPU fan.

Thanks for the thoughtful response. I need a moment to get my head around and ask a question or say something that would further the discussion.

I appreciate the heat displacement aspect. I am not a total caveman just a little. OK to put back on track it is not "water" vs "air" as I said it is all air! What are the thermal properties of copper vs water? That is the question? I don't have the exact answers but with so many of these posts I am very suspicious.

Thermal displacement is great until it reaches saturation then mute. I said very specific things about how both what is called "air cooling" and "water cooling" are the same. Can you say what is flawed about my logic?

I could be wrong but your post is not convincing me.
