Default 9800gtx Stealth watercooling mod, Save some money

Ok so i figured id thow this up here for you guys to do to your cards. If you want to save some money this is the way to do it. The results were great!!. Cards run at 30c idle 38c load in my 85degree room no problem with cores at 838 shaders at 2025 and mem over 1200. When my room drops to 65-70 they wont cross 38c and idle at 28. All you need is a dremel tool some cutting wheels and a screwdriver. And your gpu block and thermal compound of choice. So i spent a total 80$ watercooling both cards got my mcw60's 35$ a pop new from newegg plus shipping.

Pretty straight forward. disassemble card take the heatsink and cut out the gpublock making sure not to touch any mofset or mem surfaces.

clean up the fins with a dremel tool and clean up the edges of block.

Test fit the waterblock make sure it clears.

Place your stock cover on and with a pen mark where to notch out the sides for your hoses to run.

reassemble using stock thermal pads and hardware.

LEAKTEST before placing cover on

Install the covers and you got some good lookin cards that run cold as hell.

I used OCZ freeze for thermal comp on the waterblock which worked great. I stuck a temp probe inbetween the stock cooler and board next to mofsets/mem and it has never passed 38c even benchmarking with the card cranked up. So there you go you dont need 70$ worth of mofset mem sinks that can fall off and dont look good in any way SAVE THAT MONEY and have some stylin cards that dont brake the bank.

Thanks guys. I was a lil scared at first But man did it pay off it would be even better if california would cool off. Or i got AC lol but thats not happening for a while. So after about.... a month of the cards being WC they have performed flawlessly. Also if you have a 3WAY SLI board instead of normal flimsy sli bridge ive found my cards work a lot smoother when gaming.

RMA is when your card dies, or starts to crap out, artifacts etc, u sent it in to get replaced. you are gonna need to stock cooler to send it in, un modded, which you already modded, so you cant RMA now

o ok lol im not too worried about that evga makes nice quality parts so thats why i gotta cut em up jk. But i could understand it pooping out torturing it at 80c but it stays cold enough that i wouldnt imagine any damage taking place. Plus by the time it dies they wont replace it anyway.
But thank you for clearing that up.

RMA = Return Material Authorization (returning a stock component, unmodified, back to the manufactuer or seller when it fubars before the warranty expires)

Oh yeah, ain't that kinda' like the Thermaltake CL-W0153, only for the 9800GTX instead of the 8800GTX
