The plasma table goes up to 150 amps and can cut up to 1 1/2 inch at about 25 seconds a foot at 150 amps. Luckily for me I can change everything out to a 30 amp tip and cut some thin stuff without having it warp like crazy.
....Lucky guy....Thanks for the vid. That cut them real clean as light a gauge as you were using. Punch it and walk away, you've got to love it. Of course you have more then just a little money in that rig to it's sure not all gravy.

If you ever start making those for sale I'd think about making a universal base plate, with all the rad pattern holes that are threaded for all thread studs and then modular shrouds sections in various depths so the guys could play with different depths of shrouding, or so they could make them fit in hard to fit spaces. You can probably figure out something better then that but I'll throw that out there anyway.

It's a shame really that you'll have to cut them out of plate aluminium, maybe you can use the centers to make something else, I doubt there would be much demand for 92mm or 80mm shrouds, you never know though. The centers would be to small to make rad boxes with, that's a real pity to since a modular height adjustable rad-box would be cool thing to.

A mill to, that's great, you'll be able to do some block work to. If the material cost wasn't so high here DICE/Ln2 pots would be a good thing to.

I'm just rambling....I'll be watching, it's looking good!

Those would be great right there if there wasn't so much hand work involved, that warping is causing you grief bending them out isn't it. I'd grind it down and shoot it myself, that would be sharp in a flat or gloss black, if you can twist it back up to true.

It's actually not that much handwork. It took me a total of about 1.5 hours (probably more like 1 hour) to craft this from the time I hit the button to cut the parts to the time I finished with what you saw but I also took a finishing wheel to it. The warping isn't to the point where it is a deal breaker though. It would go back straight if it was bolted to a rad or something rigid. You can actually see the warp if you look at the back right of the inside you can see where it lifts off the table. That table it perfectly (well not perfect but damn close) level, we built it flat since it is the back of the bending table. I also have access to a paint gun and an area in which I can shoot. I was thinking flat black. Gonna need some more prep work before I can shoot it. I'm helping a cousin move saturday but she is moving literally 1 minute from the shop so when I am done helping her I think I may pop over to the shop and see if I can't get this thing built from one piece.

My CAD was pretty spot on. I could revise it though to make the tolerances a bit looser. I was trying to gain as much airflow as possible but if the tabs aren't even as big as the tabs on the radiator I can't see how making them the same size could hurt. Just a bit more metal to use when mounting.

Left just enough room in case I wanted to use it on that side of the radiator. I used 5/8 OD so I needed to make sure I would have enough space.

Just a picture of the top.

Be right back with some pictures of the whole thing (forgot those).

Hey I like it, all the waste from a 1 piece aluminium plate would of been a killer if you couldn't use the cut out centers for something.

"If" you ever wanted to mass produce those I bet cutting through a 4 or 5" thick stack of those clamped together might help to keep the warping down a little to. Or would the Plasma just give you a lot of blow by between the sheets? As long as your getting it square like you say when you bolt it down it should flatten back out with that lighter guage stock.

Have you ever used "Glazing Putty" like you use as a last coat over Bondo to float out any last little imperfections? I bet that would level that all out pretty well before paint. I don't know if you can use it over bare metal or if its just a Bondo topping kind of thing adn I just don't remember its been a lot of years since I used any.

Hey Thanks for all the pic's and vid.... I like watching things being made. I'm terrible at work logs, I know it's just a pain to even make one.

EDIT:^^^Hey now that is looking good!

For this shroud (I ended up not using the first two prototypes for this completed one) I made use of some coolant we have and use for the band saw. It's the big gray thing in the left of the panorama shot. I just put some in a spray bottle and sprayed it on the metal to keep it cool while the CnC was doing its thing. The pressure from the plasma air is enough to keep water from getting close to the cutting area and messing up the cut. I am not sure what the coolant is called but it is a thick blue substance that has to be diluted something like 80:1. When mixed it forms a milky light blue coolant that works wonderfully, I would say at least 10x better than water alone. Even though the torch is water cooled, it's only the torch that is cooled. The head of the plasma stays cool to the touch, even while cutting, the way the table is though, not being a water table, the metal gets very hot. I nearly counteracted the warping perfectly with the coolant and there was little if any at all,, even on the piece that made one of the faces which was basically 7.5mm wide at the most (the most vulnerable piece to warping). I also tweaked the torch a bit and set it to 20 amps with a 30 amp tip. It wouldn't make a clean cut so I kept slowing it down by increments of 5% till it started cutting clean. I eventually ended up at 75% travel speed being the sweet spot. It still doesn't cut all the way through 100% of the time but it's enough that you can pop the center piece out with a little bit of force. Stay tuned for more developments.

Nice tight fit! I'd make the tab's full size to, might as well. You've already got it looking good, that's a nice shroud right there.
