I'd almost decided for sure I was going with an expensive high end setup (HK 3.0 LT, GTX 360, Panaflo U1 fans, etc.) but after figuring it would cost around $380 and knowing it would sound like a wind tunnel, I decided to look for a cheaper, quieter alternative and remembered reading about bongs.
Basically, I'm going for a 5 1/2 to 6 foot tall evaporative cooling tower. I need to know what kind of pump I could get that would give reasonably high flow with that much head pressure. It will also need to get water though the block(s) as well. Right now I am going to get wither a Delta v3 or an Enzotech Sapphire block but I plan on a full cover GPU block later on. The DDC would be great with 15 feet of head, but at only 120 gph @ 0 ft. head I doubt I would get 40 gph at 5 1/2 feet. The D5 has a better flow but only 11 feet of head, but I do not know what would have a better flow at 5-6ft. of head. I have also considered aquarium pumps which are both affordable and quiet, but run on 120v AC and thus require a relay to turn them on and off. If anyone has any flow graphs for the Laing pumps please post them or links.

I don't mean to question your judgement, or knowledge, but have you considered the amount of humidity you will have within the room your bong chiller is in?

I think generally it's only like +2-5%, if that.

Yeah, the humidity is always low anyway where I live, especially in winter. We run like 3 humidifiers in winter and it still stays at like 40%. Only in summer when it rains heavily it goes higher (outside) but the AC keeps it low inside.
I decided on a Mag 5 pump as I know they are quiet (I have experience with aquariums) and I am ordering now.

Okay, order is in. One Mag 5 coming to my front door between the 12th and the 17th. I also have an order in at Petra's for 25 feet of tubing, some kill coils, DD Fat Boy barbs for my XSPC Delta v3 block, and some other goodies and it only cost about $200 shipped. Given I still need to buy some PVC but that shouldn't cost more than about $30.
Together it should all be under $250. To go with a high end radiator based loop would of been $380 -- GTX 360 Rad, 3xPanaflo U1 Fans, D5 pump, HK 3.0 LT, and a fan controller for those unreasonably loud fans. The best part, I pretty much know I will get ambient/sub ambient temps on my CPU alone (even after I upgrade to a PII 965) and with a graphics card it should still stay near ambient!

Have you ever built and used any sort of evaporative cooler?

Btw to add to the humidity bit-- I live in Florida. It's 85 degrees outside on Nov 6 (I hate this crap.. give me seasons, please) and ALWAYS humid. And since I've been running a bong cooler the evaporation hasn't added noticable humidity to the small office the computer is in.

I bought the PVC and have did a dry fitting of the basic layout and I have it pretty much figured out. My block and other goodies from Petra's should be here next week and the pump will arrive between the 12th and 17th and I'll have my tower completely built by then.
I am actually using a design of my own creation made to fit in a tight space and it has a PVC reservoir (hoping it will be enough for at least a week without topping off) but if I need more water capacity I have an idea that should work great.
