Default Watercooling Loop Planout

I was looking into Watercooling and I think I might be able to get myself a loop until the end of the year. I made this thread to plan out my loop and hopefully get some help on a couple of questions I cannot find answers for. This loop will initially only cool my CPU, but I want to expand to cool my GPU too. I have U$100 to spend. The budget can be expanded a bit to U$150 maybe, but I'd really like to stay below U$100. I can get tubing and fittings for free. I don't mind getting used pieces for the loop.

Well, I'll start with the CPU Block. I was looking at the XSPC Delta V3. Might be gone by the time I get this, so I'll leave open to suggestions.

For a radiator I was thinking the XSPC RS240.

I need help with selecting a pump. Here I was considering an aquarium pump with ~600LPH and 1.5 meters of head or so.

I would get 1/2" Compression fittings. Tubing would have to be 1/2" ID, right?

Loop would go: Rad at the top of my case, pump on one of the drive bays and CPU block. Would that work if I placed a GPU block later on?

Any suggestions so far?

What?

No they aren't. Fullcover blocks can be expensive, but a GPU only block like the MCW60 won't come close to $150. Maybe $50 with some ramsinks.

Nah, I'd just want the GPU cooler for higher shader clocks for F@H. I can get really cheap ramsinks here too. I'm now considering adding the GPU to the loop first and the CPU later. The GPU is the main source of noise, that's why I'd want it liquid cooled. Any other thoughts?

Maybe look into getting a used GTZ? They're 30-40 shipped used usually and they're a proven performer with 775.

I think it's been shown that the MCR series are better than the RS series and a bit cheaper too used maybe? You can usually find a MCR320 for around 40-50 shipped used and it scales really well with higher RPM fans.

I think if you're going to make the investment of getting into water cooling, you're better off buying components that can be recycled as you go on - and along those lines, I would suggest a MCP655 (Laing D5) or the MCP355 with a top (DDC-3.2). These are usually 50-60 shipped (maybe more for tops) used and are really good recyclable pumps.

That is correct but also remember that you need to match the OD as well because the compression fittings "bite down" on the tubing and will leak if the OD is too thick or thin.

This would work but you'd probably have to redo parts of the cooling. The most important part to starting water cooling is to plan. It's better to plan twice than splurge and be restricted later on (my first build case in point :\)

Hope this helps!

By the end of this month I'll start buying, so depending on how much I can save up I'll get the Apogee GTZ, and the Laing D5 pump.

As for the radiator I'm not sure if I should get that or a heatercore. I heard with heatercores you need more powerful fans, which would mean noise and that's not what I want.

For hoses I was thinking 1/2" ID and 3/4" OD, not sure if that would be too thick to bend?

I'm having a hard time finding GPU only waterblocks, any suggestions?

Thanks a lot for all the help mate!

BTW: 1000th post!

Really depends on what you want to do, MCR320 has been accepted as one of the best bang for buck radiators and has enough cooling power at most RPM ranges. So you can buy some Ultra Kazes, and a fan controller and adjust as necessary (quiet to absurdly loud )

1/2" ID 3/4" OD tubing just requires a lot of planning and some 45 rotaries, etc on various blocks just because they are obscenely huge. As long as you can plan this out, you'll be ok. I know the Heatkillers have problems with 1/2" compressions - GTZ looks like it should be ok.

GPU only water blocks - MCW60? or something from D-tek maybe? These are great recyclable blocks because the gpu cooling spacing usually doesn't change between generations.

Hey there

Do you live in brazil right now? If your in the US, this is what I would do.

With a budget of about 150 bucks, I would get the Enzotech Sapphire REV. A cpu block. Brilliantly crafted block, and performs really well for only 35 bucks

http://www.overclock.net/water-cooli...blocks-i7.html

The radiators is pretty good, but you might have some difficulty when you add a gpu to that loop.

Your correct on the compression fittings. However, they have to have the same inner and outer diameters, or else they won't screw down properly.

As for the aquarium pump, can you give us a link?

What are the thinner tubes? 5/8" OD? I wanted the thicker ones because they look less flimsy and more impressive, I'll leave fittings and hoses to buy last.

MCW60 looks like a good bang for the buck, looks like my choice.

I don't have a link to aquarium pumps because I haven't really visited stores specialized on that to know prices and specs yet. Will try to visit one on Monday.
