I was wondering if I can actually put two pumps on my WC system with only one running at a time. My Ehiem 1250 is really loud and my GF complains if I try to leave it on at night. So I was thinking about getting one of those little Swiftech MCP350 pumps to keep all the water circulating so I can download stuff during the night. I think this would work, but I'm not sure if one pump would prevent the other from working.

Probably not a great idea, you would be pushing water past the impeller of of the off pump (lots of restriction) unless you installed some kind of bypass then it would be OK I guess.

I am wondering though, I have a cheap azz Via Aqua and I was ready to throw it away when I first started using it because it was soo noisy. I then remembered a thread about doing a mod to the impeller with an "O" ring. It worked awsome, it is so quiet I barely notice it now. I wonder if you can do the same to the Eheim?

I dunoo...I'm happy with my temps and how much flow I have going, but something has to be changed about the noise. Not being able to download at night is killing me and doing it during the day isn't fun either because I get to listen to my room mates ***** about how slow the internet is. Can you find me that mod link?

I've got the same problem with my Seltz L35. I wrapped it up with a towel and you can't hear it. I'm thinking about getting some eggcrate foam and make a "box" around it to absorb the noise..

Here it is, works like a charm, you have to find the perfect O ring to wedge in there, small hole but kind of thick and still be able to stretch it over the magnet.http://www.wc101.com/guides/ViaAqua/

I have a large plastic reservoir with a submerged 1200 pump. Used to be very loud - before I glued sponge under the reservoir to stop it transfering vibrations to the desk.

If your via aqua 1300 is silent, why not just ditch the eheim and use the via aqua?

Its usuallly the faulty/bad mounting that transfers noise in the first place. Definitely put some foam mats under the pump.
