Default 1/2" id tubing, 1/2" barbs

If I used 1/2" id tubing on 1/2" compression barbs, would I still need clamps or something similar?

Or should I just use 7/16" id tubing and be done with it?

I would definitely use clamps...I use the metal ones that need a screwdriver...

no matter what, you don't want leaks - after all the money and effort - to skimp on such a vital pinpoint in the system would be a shame

I understand what you're sayin, isn't the point of the compression fitting to hold the tube tightly over the barb to prevent water leaks?

Use clamps, please. 7/16 is smaller than 1/2", so you need to force it over, the force against the interior walls creating a seal. If it's exactly the same size, you don't have that force.

I know someone who tried using 1/2" barbs and 1/2" tubing recently, it leaked.

This is what I'm thinking to use-

1/2" compression barb

7/16" id tubing

This should result in no leaks if installed properly, am i correct?

Well, do you have Compression fittings or just plan barbs?
If you have Compresion fittings (the ones with a screw piece) you wont need a clampBut if you have plain barbs (Things you screw on the WB and thread the Hose onto) then you'll need a hose clamp

That wont work, for you too have Compresion fittings like the ones you linked you need same sized tubing as the fittings are made for

Oh, this thread is confusing.

If you're using compression fittings, you need it to be exactly the same for both ID and OD dimensions.

So you need 1/2" ID tubing and 3/4" OD tubing for those compression fittings.

Exactly what he said, Confusing thread and you need Exactly the same size on Compression fitting as on the tubing

My fault making it a bit confusing, everyday you learn something new.
