Well I know that alchohol freezes at a much lower temp than water and they use it in auto application to lower the freezing temps of water and kill any algae that may grow in the system.

So could I use it in the water cooling setup?
Yeah a bit expensive but lets just say, hypothetically of course, I have a half gallon of vodka left over from a party that I wont drink.

Vodka? I think it can be done. The freezing temperature doesn't really make a difference because you're not gonna be under ambient temps unless you live outdoors in Antarctica. Give it a try just make sure it's completely distilled and you haven't contaminated it at all.

surely a liquids freezing temp would have no effect on its cooling ability (in the case of Vodka anyway)

I don't think alcohol absorbs heat as well as water though.

I would not use Alcohol simply because its a combustible liquid. You never know. Your computer might just explode one day....
