Default Swiftech Pump

On this pump I wanted to know if the lower port (horizontal) or the higher port (vertical) is the intake and which is the outtake. This is important in the layout and design of my water cooling system. It would appear from the picture that the water is pumped out through the upper port (vertical one). But, I wanted to ask someone who knew!

I really don't mean this sarcastically...do you see the arrow on the side of the vertical port in your image? That indicates the flow...so you can see Orions info is correct. (I too have this pump but have yet to get it hooked up) I mention the arrow only because many times you will be able to find molded in indicators on things like pumps and even at times on fans as well. You cannot reverse the flow of the pump either as the impeller and porting is designed to function in one direction. If you try to reverse the + & - leads to make it run in reverse it could either not run at all, run but at much reduced efficiency or damage the pump.

well as long as you keep the flow path pump-rad-block-res
then it doesnt matter

If you are talking about just the position in which it is mounted, pumps usually don't matter. The docs on the swiftech do show one way not to mount it...do not mount it with the intake facing down. As to blocks and rads...rads are the ones where I would think you get more effect on flow depending on the orientation but it really depends on the rad or heater core. Block I do believe typically indicate which should ones should be in and out if it makes a difference.

The short answer is yes they are directional and yes you can run your pump upside down or even sideways as long as you keep it on the botttom of the loop.
