Default Heater Core vs Radiator

Has anyone acually used both a heatercore and a radiator (something intended for a computer water cooling) and found any significant difference. I bought the '77 Pontiac heater core and I am waiting for all the parts. I like the heatercore because it is cheaper! But I would like it even better if it were cheaper and it works much better. I here they are much better, but has anyone ever tested this?

well it works better then a black ice extreme single 120mm fan style

and i had 2 of the black ice extremes in series just as an experiment but they limited flow to much so there wasnt any gain over a single rad

im cooling a cpu, chipset, and a nv68 card block and with my dual core at 2.8ghz with 1.7vcore it has a idle temp of 27c and load of 45c with the mb temp of 22c, my vid card sits at 31c idle and 40c load

Sounds good! I would figure that a part designed for car cooling would be very efficient.

Almost anyone will yell you that the heatercore is the best of the best in terms of radiators. I have heard that the dual heatercore is better than a 3x 120mm radiator, or just about equivalent. so in terms of size, or cooling per square inch, I would say that the '77 heatercore is one of the very best. also great for flow. I have one mounted in my coolermaster stacker, and it keeps my CPU and GPU around 30C.

Good to hear! I am going to be using 4 120MM fans (2 pull, 2 push) on my '77 dual heatcore. I have a woden frame build around it (shrowd) and the fans are rated at 96 CFM. I hope this along with the 317GPH swiftech pump and the apogee block my temps will be amazing.

So running 2 BIX in a loop wouldn't be any advantage over running just 1?

not in my case, maybe if i had a way more power ful pump i could have gotten better results from it, its just that there was to much stuff to push the water through, a dual 120mm bix would be better then 2xsingle 120mm bix

dont get me wrong those little guys perform very well and i would recommend them to anyone exspecially looking at there size they work great, but the price of a 77bon core is a big tempting part of it,

also remember that there are other heat exchangers that will work just as good if not better, there are alot of after market car oil/tranny/heatercore that will work and some of them better then the bonnie so you can allways look around if you want something a different size for what ever project you had in mind
