Hey guys
i just spent about 3 hours lapping my CPU, and god does it look good, Until I put some thermal compound on it. It did drop my temps about 3 degrees, Just not what I thought it would do(fix my temp readings), It was really concave, took me a good 30+ minutes on 180 grit paper to even it out. But the end results were really worth it. I just really want to know why my temps are still high, I am gonna get a temp probe so I can monitor my water temps, This way I know about what they should be. What I am thinking is my mobo temps are off, The NF-41 are know to be off up to 30C so, I just gotta go with the assumption that I am running at the temps I was hoping for. I wish eVGA would fix the stupid coding on the mobo, and make the ram compatability issue disappear and make the temps some what accurate. OH WELL.

It has to be that your temp readings are screwed up.

Congrats! How do you hold your cpu while you lap it? I'd think you'd have to protect the pins somehow...

When I lapped mine I just held the green plastic part with my thumb and middle finger and rested my index finger on the top of the pins. The pins are a lot harder to bend then people say...

HERE is Crimson Mango's guide to lapping.

Well I guess something worked right, I am getting about 15-16C idle temps, and about 28-30C full load. My ambient room temp is about 24C which is going by my HDD temps which are usually always the same as the ambient temp in my room. I wish they would be lower but its good enough. I have some pics of my lapped cpu, Ill post later.
Well eVGA released a BIOS update for my mobo, Im gonna flash mine and see if it changes anything.

Update, I attached some pics of my lapped CPU, I think it came out pretty well. lemme know what you think.

Where'd you get the liquid metal? I've been dying to get my hands on some of that to help my TEC out.

If you go to this website you can order some direct from the company, it based in germany. It took like 5 days for me to get mine. And it cost me about US$14.

Did it help your temps any when compared to AS5? According to their advertiements, it has a much higher thermal conductivity than AS5. Just thinking out loud, but what if the cold temps of the waterblock is making the liquid metal solidify, and therefore creating a barrier between your waterblock and CPU? If that were the case, than it would explain why your temps are about the same as before...

I may have to get some to run some experiments.

Actually I noticed about a 6-8C drop, in temps after using it. trust me it won't solidify. Its kinda cool, Looks like melted solder. i tried making it solidify, I stuck a little drop on a plate in the freezer, and after about 3 hours took it out, and it was just as viscous as before. and wasn't the least bit harder. I recommed getting a paint brush and painting it on. Make sure both your surfaces are SUPER CLEAN. It will seem like it doens't want to spread with the paint brush at first, but work with it and it will smooth out, and go where you want.
