Default WC: Layout Blueprint

Hey, I made this rough scetch of the laybout I'm going to have my watercooling setup in. I included tubing and flow direction. This is so I can get feedback/suggestions on other optional layouts. Lemmy know if I need to make any tweaks/changes.

I'm also going to work on a side view while you guys look this one over. Here's the top view: (Edit: and side view)

it looks pretty cool and correct...but i think u should put another fan on the radiator on the other side and put in shrouds for the fans

if u want u can check out the following faq and its explained in more detail...

Thanks, I'll probably put more fans on the otherside. But there are three so far. Here's the side-view for a clearer perspective.

i understand now....it looks really good....but i would suggest one more thing...if the radiator is inside then ur current setup is good but u still need to install fans on the back of the casing to exhaust the air out...just to be able to achieve better internal temp inside the casing..if it is outside then its all good. all you need is shrouds on each fan, that will really improve ur temps because as i had said on the FAQ u will produce enough turbulence to remove sufficient amounts of heat.. good luck mate

I would also plan on rotating the pump 90 degrees to the right. No reason to have that much of a bend in the tubing.

Those 90 degree bends will cause an issue, you'll have to clamp the tubing there to keep it from pinching or just give lots of slack so that it doesnt pinch. Also be sure to leave enough slack to be able to pull the res out of the case far enough to add water! Thats one mistake I made lol.

On my cube case I got rid of the hdd rack and mounted the drives behind one of the front intake fans. I have a dual 120 rad and I mounted it in place of the hdd rack. It fit perfect above the main psu behind the mb tray.

The Flow and component placement seems ideal. Comments about shrouds are spot on, as duct work of some type radically increases the efficiency of the rad. Pulling is quieter than pushing--but a push pull double shrouded rad will perform better than any other set up (according to the geeks with test benches and expensive thermometers over at pro cooling)

Don't forget to try and keep the I.D. the same throughout the loop.

Dualpass cores are the most effecient at heat transfer, twisted core coolers such as those used in motorcycle oil coolers have been found to be highly efficeint at the gph and head the typical 12VDC peristaltic pump provides with 3/8" I.D. tubing in theloop--going to 1/2" lowers both the speed and the pressure of the coolant, which depending on your waterblocks could be a good or bad thing.

The bigger is better mentality of 1/2" tubing is only partially correct--it depends on the waterblock design, and in particular on the manner in which the WB microturbulates the coolant as it passes through the critical part of the heatsink. A fast moving stream of water forms a skin that actually rejects the transfer of heat from the surface it is in contact with--microturbulence disrupts this skin and afford better heat transfer to the coolant. Water wetters do this to some extent. In a poorly designed WB with low tubulence in key areas a slow flow with high pressure (3/8") offers the best heat transfer. In a well designed WB with jet impingemnet zones (such as the Storm Extreme marketted through Swiftech and others) a higher flow with less pressure yields the highest heat transfer--but thinner lines will still perform well.

Hope this helps.

Don't forget that the Mobo, RAM, Chipset areas all need cooling--so hot air from the Rad is out of the question--ideally the water cooling airstream and the case airstream should not mix.

Ok... so
1. Rotate Pump
2. Add MORE fans to radiator
3. Avoid extreme angles
5. For those of us keeping track, this should be 4.

Thanks for your help guys. I'll consider your modification, busa.

Edit: I'll take lots of pictures during and after install.
