Most def chopes!! I would! It will def cool the water more. I would also have it up off the bottom of the rez also, somewhat free floating, that way the cold won't be going into the copper, just the water in it.

Any ideas on how I should make the mesh, because I dont want to burn a hole though the res, so I dont want to sotter it.

What kind of metal mesh have you got?
What about if you folded the mesh around the ice pack to form a "pocket". Have tabs at the top long enough to go over the top of the res, then Hang it from the open in the res.
