Would it be possible to fit 1/4" ID tubing onto a 3/8" fitting or is it too much of a difference for it to not fit WITHOUT a seperate fitting..?

id think you need a fitting because even with a good pipe clamp the would be a wrinkle or a gap at the joint

sry read it backwards you might but make sure it dosent split the hose...

Even if you could stretch it that far, it would be unwise. The most likely result is eventual failure and a massive leak.
__________________a reducer fitting would be around $1 or less at any plumbing supply or hardware store......
