Hey.. I recently replaced my motherboard, and can't remove the mylar plate which came with the bigwater kit and could imagine the headaches trying to order that same part.

Can I use a backplate from (for example) a Zalman 7700, the 775 backplate and install the Thermaltake T plate on the back of that, to replace the washer and mylar (insulating pad) on the back of the motherboard which came with the bigwater kit?

Any suggestions very welcome, I'm sure this is an easy fix and common problem. A friend suggested steaming the old one off, is this recommended?

Steam ... water and the minerals hmmm!
Try a blow drier to warm it up!

Actually, when my reservoir arrived cracked, Thermaltake was shockingly quick in getting me a replacement--I had it in five days, YMMV.

Barring that, I there's an abundance of alternatives, as long as they are soft, non-conductive, and non-adhesive. A random example--how about those felt pads that hardware stores sell for putting on furniture feet, cabinet doors, etc? That might fit the bill and be cheap and easy.

^^^ Are you 100% sure or can anyone else confirm this, will go hardware store and buy some tomorrow for this and use the plate and a stencil to make a new one and just cut four holes in it,

I was thinking that, but wasnt sure. Also could there be heat issues with rubber? Could go ~40c+ behind there - can anyone name a specific type of rubber/ compound i could ask the store guy which would fit this purpose.. the shop assistant should know, but you never know LOL

I was talking about felt, so I don't know what rubber you are talking about.

I would think "rubber" would depend on the specific material--I imagine plenty of synthetics would be fine, but now sure how you'd make sure you had the right one.

So is it possible to just attach the copper block to the back of the mobo with normal mounting screws and washers ????

anyone got a pic etc so i can check that what im thinking is the right way?

with the insulating pad, it went over the pins sticking out the back so the plate didnt squish any of the solderings out the back. as i said previously, i dont think it's the smartest idea having a sticky one as it's near impossible to get off, still waiting to find a few good ways..
