If you are going to use Drano make sure you do not have anything in your loop that is aluminum. You do not want to see the end result

Hey, get oxygen bleach. It already has hydrogen peroxide in it. Guess it would not have done anything bad after all!

In commercial chillers we use Virginia (brand) acidizing cleaner. This comes in one gallon plastic bottles, and you just follow the instructions on the bottle as to dilution ratios. It won`t hurt copper or other metals as long as you follow the instructions about rinsing, etc. It is mostly a mild phosphoric acid mix also containing inhibitors to prevent the cleaner from attacking the metal during the cleaning process. It removes easily with the proper rinsing, and you don`t have to worry about your system. It removes all mineral scale which is produced by heat and flow of the water being pumped and heat being transferred throughout a cooling system. Litmus paper is recommended during its use so that you know the condition of your water when you are finished. A gallon jug of this stuff is about $25 to $30, but for a system as small as what is being talked about here it would last several years. If this is not what you want, ice machine cleaner is the next best thing, as it works nearly as well and it comes in a 16 oz. plastic bottle. It also rinses a little easier than the Virginia stuff.

Why not just use a good 'ol sock and some fishing line or wire! No need for chemistry here!

bleach and ammonia makes clorien gas and ammoniumoxide. the gas is what gets you.mixing acids and bases doesnt aways make a boom but what does happen is the two mix and yes nutralize and i result is a gas. as we all know gases are less dense then liquids so they must expand. anyone remember putting backing soda in a ballon and vinager in a bottal then put the ballon on the bottel and watch the ballon pop. good times

The reason for using the cleaner in its liquid form is that all you have to do is add the proper amount to your water reservoir and let the pump do the rest. It won`t hurt the pump and it will get all parts of your system totally clean, far easier and more efficient that taking apart things and running the risk of causing future leaks or fractures from the stress of mechanical cleaning.
