I bought my heater core today at autozone and of course, the fittings are too big. So, I headed next door to Lowe's and bought myself two brass fittings. (couldn't get barbs in the right sizes). One question though, how am I going to keep these in? They are a pretty snug fit but I want to make sure they stay in this HC. Is it possible for me solder these in??? Here are some pictures...:

That look really good. Solder will be great. Maybe JB weld.

Wow, never thought of JB Weld. Awesome idea, will probably be easier as I do not have ready access to a torch to solder this.

Why didn't you get ends with threads so you could put one of those plastic things ( forget the name) to put the tubing on?

If you mean the barbs..I couldn't find barbs to fit this correctly, if they had them, which I bet Lowe's did...I didn't have the exact measurements of the original fittings and I didn't feel like opening every little baggy of barbs to try and find one that fit, heh. And I think these will do me fine. I bought UV Green zip ties not too long ago which will serve its purpose nicely and look good at the same time.

Yeah I remember with the exact same heatercore sitting up there finding the write fitting for it.

But opening the bags of those little 40¢ fittings finding the right one, I was so tempted to just walk out of there with them on it...
. How bad would I be stealing $1.29 worth of brass fittings, muhahaha. Imagine if they actually stopped me for it too. HAHA. But, since I'm such a saint liek the rest of us on Overclock.net ...I payed for them...

I just cut mine off below the little bulge and heated my tubing in hot water and slipped it right on the fitting, no clamps needed or anything.

I'm using 1/4" ID tubing, don't think that's gonna happen with me haha. And IMO, I don't think it really changes diameter after that little bulge, it looks like it bulges then goes right back to the same size. It's almost as if that bulge is there to help keep the tubing on the HC. That is, if you're really using it as a heater core in a '77 Bonneville....

Thats not how to do it Those are the wrong fittings. look at mine in the for sale. You need to get 1/2' to 3/8 female adaptor and a reducer to 1/4 npt. these fittings work well because the small end fits in the 5/8 tube and the larger fits inside the 3/4 (both with a little sanding) look through my homeade waterblock threads there are pics in there of how to do it.
