Hey, I was out and about today (I drive for my school and I had to bring a prospective student to the airport) and I was driving past an Autozone so I figured I'd stop and take a look at a 77 bonneville heater core. I've been thinking about getting one (haven't decided if I'll buy pre-modded or do it myself) so I went in and asked to see one. they only had the w/ AC version and the ends went out and then were bent at an angle. I've never seen one like this, so... when getting a bonneville heater core do you want one that is made for a car with or w/o AC? Also, when I looked on Autozone's website they were $18. and in the store they were $22.
what gives? If I do decide to do it myself what adaptors would I need to get it to a 1/2" barb? I do have a soder iron so that isn't an issue.

W/OUT AC is the best to use. As far as the fittings sizes, I am not sure. fstfrddy is quite familiar with this and I think there may be a FAQ for it too.

ok, I haven't seen a faq about the 77 bonneville heater core. If I decide to do it myself maybe I'll make one.

I know everyone is modding their heater cores, But I didn't I made the 1/2" id. tubing fit over both ends the 1/2" side and 3/4" side with no problem at all. You have to work it on a little bit but it works. Also with the 3/4" side I stuck the end of the tubing in boiling water for about 5 minutes so it was really pliable and then pushed it on the end of the 3/4" outlet. I don't know if anyone else has done this but it worked for me. And it also saved me time and money.
Heres a pic of what mine looks like: ![]()

yup there is already an faq i used for the heatercore modding where you have to cut it down and all that, i just boiled some water and pushes it way down, works just as well.

Also you cannot sweat on the proper fittings with a soldering iron, you need at least a propane torch, I use a mapp torch.
