Default Hosing and Pump

Hi all,

I'm currently getting parts together for my watercoolling project and I'm having trouble deciding on a few things. For a pump i have chosen this:

http://www.rockaroundtheblock.com.au...pID=284&cID=10

The only problem i can see with tis pump is that its quite beasty and it will be a tight fit in my case.

Also for hosing i was thinking standard 1/2" hosing? I realise that the pump fittings are bigger then this so ill have to boil the end of the tube to fit it over but i dont really see this as much of a problem. Alo i was just wondering what size tubing you guys used 3/8", 1/2", 3/4"??????

that looks verry similar to an Eheim pump.

I believe the most common sizes are 3/8" or 1/2" ID, with 1/2" giving the better performance

That is a 3000 LPH pump and is overkill!! I am using a 1600LPH pump and that is overkill. You don't need anything that heavy duty as the flow is reduced greatly because of the block resistence. You realise that that is a sumersible and needs to sit in a tub of liquid covering the entire pump.(although it says suitable for inline use--what does that mean?) I use a sumersible and have had no issues and it is a cheap way out of getting lots of "head" on a budget.

As for hosing you can use standard garden hose if you wish with that size of a pump and can even go all out and have a plant inside with some fish also if ya keen !!! LOL

What about this one mate, a little cheaper and still plenty of head.

Go down to your local hardware store or Bunnings and have a look around, my Bunnings has heaps of pumps for reasonable prices, the online prices are also good.

I'd go with a DD D-5 or the the MCP-655, they are basically the same thing, just a different label on them. They have the same or slightly better head as the one your looking at. Also they run off your psu and are very quiet.

Hehehe I'm glad i asked as i wasnt sure what pump specs where suitable for water coolling. also that pump can be converted to an inline pump.

The only problem with this pump is that it is submersable which im not too keen on as i can see myself knocking over the resovoir its sitting in and spill water everywhere.

Well if i go for a water feature pump i save alot more money and in most cases get alot better performance.

I think i will keep looking for something with a little less grunt. Once i find one ill post it here. Thanks again fort the replys.

Also just for the record. What are suitable Lph and Head specs for a water coolling pump?

most high end pumps are about 1200l/h pumps.
some popular pumps for wc are:
Via Aqua 1300 (you may want to look at the 2300 for your setup)
Eheim 1250
Hydor L35 (what I'm getting)
or DC pumps:
Danger Den D5 or the equivalent Swiftech 655, or Lang D5
