Yay after reading cyber druids post i have re wired one of the fans and it works perfectly with my Cooler Master Aerogate II below are the pics of how i moddded it:

If you look closley at that pic u will see a seccond black wire sticking out can i just cut that off? or should i leave it?

Ok now that i have that worked out all i have to do now is find 10x 3 pin Female Molex connectors. Currently I have found a lot of 10x Connectors for $10AU. Does anyone know of anything cheaper? that price includes postage btw.

Looking good mate !

Just a couple of pointers for you. My personal experience (in my field of work) is that fans mounted on a shround pulling air through the coil is one of the best configurations.
to have them pushing at the front and pulling from the rear is somewhat of a wated exercise in time and cost.

However if you chose to go down this road. I would suggest that you have quite a decent shroud spacing for the front pushing fans, say 30-50mm off the coil face. Be aware that the integrity of the shroud to fan and coil face seal needs to be good.
As for the shroud on the rear 25mm should suffice in your situation.

Another point of note as tuchan mentioned, clean out that heater core prior to use as they have a tendency to be full of flux ( at times acid based) . for a simple home remedy vinegar and water in a ratio of 10:2 is a good solution.

If you get stuck for a connector solution for your fans to PSU drop me a PM

cheers

If only i had this information before i bought the fans.. Oh well hopefully i will gain some tiny benefit by having a push pull setup.

Ill go 5 just to be safe

I ran the hose through the heater core for a bout 10mins hopefully that has cleaned outt he bulk of stuff. Ill try your vinegar method as well to be sure.

Speaking of Power will it be safe to run all of these fans (8 in total) of my pc's power supply keeping in mind it is already running all of my components and case fans.

Also can i make my shroud out of card board? is that sturdy enough? or should i try make it out of a thin sheet of metal?

Make the shroud out of anything mate, even plastic from and ice cream container can work well.

As for all the fans it should be just fine. They don't draw very much at all. If ya PSU can take it.......

Well for your 8 fans you are looking at nearly 5A at 12V..remember as the voltage decreases the current (Amps ) goes up.

Add up what else you have in the system and give yourself a 10% tolerance.

If in doubt get another PSU to run fans and aux equipment

That sounds very confusing Ill just add one fan at a time and see what happens :P

Okay..here..is a simple program to calculate the system power requirements.

Your 8 fans will consume about 5A @12v from the +12V rails.

cheers

OK just to put things into perspective I will give an update on what I'm up to.

Currently I have a heater core, fans, pump and res. My remaining Tasks are as follows:
  1. Mod Fan Connectors
  2. Build Box to enclose pump res and heater core
  3. Make a Shroud and install it in box
  4. Wire up fans inside box
  5. Find a suitable fan controller to control fans
  6. Install fan controller in box
  7. Decide and Buy a CPU Block
  8. Hose everything up and Leak Test

Below is all the current parts sitting as I want it to when its in the box (Imagine a shroud connecting the fans to heater core).

Does anyone have any ideas on how to build the box? I was trying to find a suitable sized tool box that i could place it all in but i couldnt find any at bunnings if anyone knows of one that might fit it all let me know.

Oh I forgot to mention this its kinda irrelevent but the fans I chose can push them selves along my table when at full rpm!

One option for your enclosure would be a mid tower case, they are cheap and look good, mostly got everything you need there and would be easy to modify.
As for fan contoller, just use a simple Rheobus 4 channel unit.

For the case try out www.umartonline.com.au they are in Milton and for the Rheobus try www.gamedude.com.au as they seem to have the cheapest.

cheers
