Unhappy First WC build, not too impressed so far.

Okay heres the deal, a few weeks back I was recommended to get water cooling so I could overclock and so with the help of Renegade I set off to get a custom kit assembled.
We chose a Swiftech Apogee, a single bay Typhoon Quad Res, a modded “Stinger” ViaAqua 1300 pump and Black Ice Pro – X-Flow Radiator all of this with ½ tubbing.
Anyways finally got everything setup and its running in my rig, I'm using plain old distilled water as of now, but so far I am disappointed, my temps are 45C idle and go straight to 50C as soon as I start folding and about 55C on load.
I was truly expecting a little more drastic change for all the money I put into it (180$) and as of right now I don't want to and cant really spend anymore money, plus temps have not changed too much as opposed to the Zalman 7000AlCu I was using.
So anyways does anybody have some input on this, ideas, any sort of help?

Have you tried re seating the CPU heat sink with some AS5.
I had to do mine 2 times before i saw an improvement.

Try reseating the water block. And can you remember if the block has a good flat/smooth surface on it? If not maybe try lapping it, what fans do you have on the rad. and exactly what rad. do you have? Is it the single, dual, or triple fan rad.

Right now I dont have any AS5, all I have is thermal grease from Zalman and this stuff Aero 300, I think that also has silver compound in it.
Rad is a single and has a 120mm/85cfm fan on it (because I wanted internal at the time). The CPU block is completely flat.

Also any general idea of what temps I should be seeing if everything is working right?

I would say it has to do with the combo of no AS5 and a Single Rad.

Intel's get hot and your RAD might not be pulling out enough heat to handle the Intel which in turn will slowly creep up to Air temps.

Get some AS5 and a dual Rad and you should see an improvement....also what is your ambient temp

Temps should be in the 30*C range if everythign is working properly, I think

Get more air flowing through that radiator. Get some AS5 and wait for it to cure. Only other thing I can think of is your choice of pump... it's questionble, but more importantly is your loop arrangement. Does it go from Radiator -> CPU -> Reservoir -> Pump -> radiator?

Edit: By more air flow, I mean put a fan on both sides of the radiator, one pushing and one pulling. It's almost a must, especially for a single 120mm radiator.

No air in the loop only in the top of the res, also wondering how I can get rid of that.
Ambient temps are about 30-35C to my knowledge, to get an idea my 2.0Ghz Northwood gets 26C on stock HSF with 1 80mm fan in the case.

Also AS5 is still $10 bucks and a dual res. would be another $40? (if I got like a boneville heatercore + shroud + fans?) Right now thats too much to spend, I could look into it for the future but right now I would like to see some improvement for what ive got. Either way would AS5 really change that much? I heard temp changes where 2-3C at most.

Also my loop goes as follows: Pump -> Rad -> CPU -> Res -> Pump

also that pump is a mod from fstfrddy
