Default thinking of upgrading to water cooling

so im thinking of buying a setup with the following components:

Dtek Whitewater block with universal mounting plate (still one of the best blocks today, better than the tdx/rbx)
Heatercore - full copper - painted blue, can fit a 140MM fan however I had none (you can get them on newegg) lil over 2" thick
Via Aqua 1300 - 375GPH pump
Tubing, tlines + fill port and hose clamps
Delta 120mm 110cfm fan

for $80

is this a good deal? im a total noob when it comes to water cooling, but am very interested. would this be a big improvement over my Big Typhoon?

thanks for your input.

I'm not particularly familiar with that waterblock, so I cannot assist you on that item, but it seems that you are fairly intent on keeping it. The heatercore isn't a bad deal, if you already have matching barbs for waterblock, pump and heatercore. For $80, that sounds like a nice deal. No reservoir? just a fill port?

for the price it's a pretty good deal.

you can get a via aqua w/ 1/2" barbs for 30 shipped on ebay then do fstfrddy's mod to it
single heater core 30 (25 unpainted)
http://www.dtekcustoms.com/index.asp...ROD&ProdID=103
that's a 30 dollar block (tripple barbs so a bit more complecated to set up, but not hard)
http://www.dtekcustoms.com/index.asp...ROD&ProdID=137
a fillport will typically run you 12
then you have a T and tubing... another 10 there.

so you could get this setup for about 115-125 new

I'd say it's a pretty good deal. Since you have a small case the small rad would be nice and hopefully it would be able to mount right on the inside of your case then mount your rear fan on top of it.
the pump can sit on the floor or in the bottom of your drive cage depending on how your drive cage works.

like I said... most people use distilled water you can pick some up from walmart of your grochey store for less than a dollar.
then just add 5-10% additive for anti corrosion. (I think I'm probably running closer to 3%) you can use antifreeze or zerex, hydrix or another additive.

some people run non-conductive fluids, but they start about 20 for a qt

damm. im torn whether to get this kit or invest in some 120mm panaflo/silverstone fans instead and sleeve my PSU for better airflow.

well I went from a lapped bt on my opty to my custom wc and my load temps dropped 6-7 degrees for my cpu and 15-20 for my gpu.

I can't tell you how much better this setup would be as I'm not familar w/ the water block, but it won't be any worse than what you have now.

if you got a swiftech radbox and mounted the heater core on the back of your case so it got cooler air it would prob make it more efficient
