Default button nightmare

i tryed to put a button on my websight but i couldent find the file where my home page is stored so i spent 4 hours serching goolge but nothing then it clicked ask the people who know if any of you no what file i should edit my websight please let me know

index.html or index.php look in your httpd.conf file for this line "DirectoryIndex index.html index.php"
