Default Hosting my own site

Well i want to try and host my own website instead of renting from a company
and i was wondering what i would need in-order to do so.

Well its not real hard to to do but if you have dsl or cable you need to have a business acount to legaly host a site off a home pc. Apache is the webserver most people setup and use.

You need to download the PHP and MySQL server separately. You still need Apache.

I think that only really applies to people making a profit from that, but I could be wrong.

Otherwise, hosting a website is nothing different than uploading pictures to Flickr. Same protocol, same direction.

Check out http://www.howtoforge.com they have lots of tutorials for setting up web servers with different distros, if you are planning on using Linux.
