I found an article about it on dotvoid, saying it was going to be mostly a code cleanup and restructuring (taking a lot of functions out of the core and adding them as 'packages').
But all the info I can find is from late 05 and early 06. Any help on this?

I don't recommend going to PHP 6 too fast, because PHP4 was discontinued ~ Q4 2007. PHP5 is mostly supported. PHP6 is more "beta", not production as PHP5.
