Never underestimate the value of free...

VBulletin does seem more professional, but 160.00 for an owned license? Its simply not worth it when phpBB can do exactly the same thing.

vBulletin is worth way more than the $160 it sells for.

Yuck stay away from phpBB I had bad experiences. The admin controls are very yucky. My favorite is mybboard.

I've had my phpBB board up for awhile, and the worst part of it is getting the site admins and mods and everything straight on it. What's mybboard?

It's like phpbb but IMO much better. Although it is updated regulary.

yeah, i was coming here to link this one. I use this forum on my gaming clans website, its pretty nice. It has alot of features and mods like vBulletin

The new PHPBB sucks so bad.

I have it, and hate it.

2.0 was bomb, 3.0 sucks (many coding errors, and unfixable problems, even after a fresh start)

Thats why I'm buying vBulletin soon.

Killer phpBB 3 feature is the ability to integrate IMing with the forums. So you can communicate with the message boards through Instant Messages. Very useful if you're an admin and constantly need to keep on eye on the forum.
