phpBB because its FREE! and doesn't generate and 50+Mb database from scratch like some other web applications I know about *cough*vBulletin*cough*

Okay i might be fluffing that 50+Mb from scratch but it can get really, really, REALLY big and fast compared to phpBB. Why is that bad? well when time comes to move to another host or backup the website it becomes the most difficult thing to do. phpMyAdmin doesn't exactly let you port in a 20Mb database, not even a 10Mb database.

Well if you are doing a personal site phpbb is great and has lots of addons. For a big site, vbulletin is the way to go. This site is vbulletin, I have used phpbb, it's difficult to get all of the addons to play nicely with eachother.

Dont know what webhost you're on... I can export a 300MB database just fine. It just takes a few minutes to queue up.

exporting a 300mb database is fine but importing is where the problem is.
