Default phpBB forum help (sort of)

Hi guys;

Over the next 2 years at school, we will be doing php coding in relation to a mysql database.
For yr10 major assignment i successfully managed to make [really modify/setup] a phpBB forum on the schools web server, i was quite pleased with myself and wanted then to host the forum elsewhere, but my ISP's web space didn't have a sql database so i was stuck there and it has since been deleted from the schools server and probably from all my computers also

What i would like to be able to do is do away with the schools server and run the whole thing off my laptop and upload it to the server if need be.

This means that i need to get a web server with php support and a mysql database running on my laptop in a way that it is running like a external server if that makes sense....
And need to be able to interact with it as if it was schools server.

1) How do i go about making this offline servers on my laptop?
2) How would i when need be upload it to the schools server?
3) Any further tips to help us?

thanks

scottath

Yes - in a nutshell
And be able to edit the forum live and be able to export the whole thing to an actual web server if this is possible at a later date [once finished]

These are "offline" servers. Apache + PHP5 + MySQL and some other things depending on the package.

Well, it can be tricky, but mostly you would have to change the database server settings (config file somewhere in the directories)

The other thing is to export the database from the laptop to a file, and then import it to the school server. It can be easily done by phpMyAdmin. This can be found in the XAMPP package as a default tool for easy web MySQL Database managing.
