I can't seem to solve the problem of spam on a forum of mine...

I have the captcha required for registration, as well as email confirmation. Only registered users can make posts. And yet, look at the forums! I cleared it out just over a week ago!

There are certain services that solve captchas and simple scripts can be made to register/confirm/post on a site.

Sorry, it's phpbb 3.0.4. Just noticed that there was a newer version out, 3.0.5, but it seems as though people are having trouble with captcha-hackers on that version already as well.

when I used to use PHPBB i had major issues with spam too. I switched to SMF. I like it a lot better. if your willing to shell out for it, vbulletin is good.

lmao just looked at that forum and its prity funny. but you can always just add a security question to sign up. like whats 1+2+4+6+??? and that can help prevent bots. just change it every once and a while.

I like SMF too. Was alot better than phpbb and VB though I like vb second best.

Most scripts have trouble when you deviate from the standard registration format.

Make your own "human test" at registration and ask a ridiculous easy/individual question such as "Do you live on the sun? Answer 12 for no. 2 + 16 for yes"

I had to disable signups on my forums due to this. My option to have the admin, me, approve new users is greyed out. It's been this way since 3.0.2.
