Ok this may not be a "web coding" question, but im wondering how I can get more legitimate hits to my website without spending money and without doing nefarious things like link spamming everyone.

What do you guys do to self promote your websites to "get them out there"?

I was thinking about getting some of my articles on digg or similar websites.

Right now im getting a lame-o 3 uniques a month from search engines and they all bounce lol.

Any suggestions?

im pretty familiar with seo and back linking and those kind of things. I would suggest making your website more seo friendly so you can get se to crawl you. Whats your website about or what does it do? If I know I think i can help you better.

hm.. well try some of the usual advertising. Add a sticker to the back of ALL your cars saying www.mad-J.com or whatever your site it.

That is a great way, I see them on cars, and google them all the time. While I drive. (Not safe to google and drive I know)

Do a few Digg adverts, and try to promote to people. What is ur site about?

My site is mainly about tech/science that sort of thing, like for example the latest article im working on is about Cochlear Implants. My seo is decent and I had a few articles that had good page ranking in google but few hits from them.

I like the sticker idea as it wouldn't cost money so why not. What would "the usual advertising" consist of? Like telling your friends/family or what. Sorry im a noob as its my first real website, the design and everything is fine but I just dont know how to get it out there.

Ill work on trying to get someone to digg my site, even if it gets me 10 hits total that would be an improvement over what I have now.
