Hello everyone,
Small problem here. I installed my copy of Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition. I believe it to be a fully functioning version (it was provided with my student MSDN account) and I used it to upgrade from Server 2000. I updated everything to the best of my ability, however, when I plug in my USB external hard drive (Seagate 160gb), it fails to mount it. The hard drive appears in the the hardware manager under hard drives, and it has a place to eject the drive in the "Safely Remove Hardware" tray icon. However, "MY Computer" has no icon or anything for it. The drive is likely in FAT format, unless it was somehow formatted to NTFS, but I figure Server 2003 would recognize both. This is my server spec: --Soltek Mobo (Via's K8T800 Pro) --FX5700U Golden Sample --Maxtor Hard Drive --GigaRam 1024mb Ram --3000+ Venice Athlon 64 Nothing special, nothing real out of the ordinary. Everything comes up as recognized in Device Manager except the RAID controller, which I chose not to install. One other thing, It appears that the USB2.0 does not work, though it still recognizes the USB ports themselves. When I hook up the drive, it says "This device can perform faster...blah blah blah" Any thoughts?

This is why i refered my FAQ. There needs to be an appropriate Windows readable partition on that HDD before it will actually show up within Windows. It should be an NTFS format.

From the first post I had assumed that he thought it was formatted (cuz he was saying it was FAT). if it came pre-formatted it may be a problem with the drive rather than a first time setup

The format has to take place under Windows he is using before it is recognised.
